Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

The Sunforce 200 Watt DC to AC Modified Sine Wave Inverter is designed to convert 12 volt DC power into a 110 Volt AC power outlet, allowing the usage of a variety of tools, appliances and home office equipment. It features maximum and continuous power supply of 200W which makes it a perfect compact inverter. This inverter has surge capability of 400 Watts and includes overload protection, short protection, as well as high voltage protection. It consists of a low voltage audible alarm, an internal cooling fan and low voltage as well as thermal protection. This inverter includes battery terminal clips and is highly effective.

Key Component of Solar Power Systems

A power inverter changes the DC power stored in 12-Volt batteries into AC power, which is the same kind of power used in your home. The inverter is attached to one or several batteries, which serve as your power source. The devices that you want to run are then plugged into the outlets on the front of the inverter. An extension cord can be used for devices that are located farther away. Once set up, simply turn on the inverter and then turn on each device.

The attached batteries will discharge as the inverter draws power from them, and will need to be periodically recharged. Solar power is one of the most convenient and cleanest ways to recharge 12-Volt batteries. With a solar power setup, you can generate free power anywhere the sun shines--even in remote locations. Once connected to solar panels and a charge controller, your batteries will be automatically recharged by sunlight and will provide the inverter with clean, renewable power for your equipment.

Better Technology Keeps Your Components Safe

Some power inverters use a modified sine wave instead of a pure sine wave. This modified power wave is not exactly the same as electricity from the power grid, and appears as a choppy squared-off wave when viewed through an oscilloscope. The voltage fluctuates with this type of inverter and may cause difficulties running sensitive electronic equipment. You may notice that digital clocks lose time, the picture appears wavy on screens, and motors run roughly; these are indications that you require a pure sine wave inverter.

However, modified sine wave inverters make the conversion from DC to AC very efficiently. They are relatively inexpensive and many of the electrical devices we use every day work fine on them, like phone chargers, lights, power tools, refrigerators and more.

I didn't have this exact one but a 200 watt sunforce like it. It worked great for a few years then gave up on me. i could never go near 200 watts with it . In fact 4 CFL light bulbs 23 watts each would cause the whole thing to shut down.

I bought this trying to find an inverter that would consume low standby power for a solor project that would run one hour per night. Certainly the people at SUNFORCE would have their stuff together and realize that a solor project must be thrifty since it has limited "income". If the inverter is powered up with no load, it should just sit there until it has work to do. The larger ones power up silent and have the fan come on when: A= The load increases generating heat, or B= the internal temp climbs making the fan necessary. This is just 2 more semiconductors guys!
This one, if it's powered up; the fan runs and runs. Doesn't matter if it's 35°F and there is no load on it at all.
Anyone that has PC's for years realize that fans last 5 years at best then it's on to the junkyard.
I have to find one with "low quiescent drain"...
Hints appreciated.
