I often go Gold & Gemstone hunting and use quite a bit of 12volt equipment, including a forgotten 12v cooler plugged into the dash. Upon leaving the car for a day to prospect a small stream, the cooler drained our battery dead. We returned with only about 2 hours of daylight left, found the battery dead and I immediately removed the charger from my backpack and began charging the battery with direct sunlight. As the sun was setting we "tried it" and there was just enough charge to start us up and we drove the 12 miles out of the forest instead of having to walk it out for help.
Not only does the product work, but it has changed the way I think about solar energy. Needless to say, since it saved us that day in the forest, I am rating this product with 5 stars.

This baby charges up the 8 volt battery in my 1949 international tractor
parked out in the orchard quite well. I even ran over it with an empty trailer, and left it out in the rain! I can use large metal spring clamps to hang it anywhere to catch the afternoon sun. Haven't tried it camping yet.

I got this to charge my various electronic devices i take camping with me. This solar charger works great. I was able to charge my ipod touch in a hour and a half. My cell phone in 3 hours and my portable speaker ran non stop for 5 days. I would charge it during the day and run it on the battery during the night.

It rained one day while i was gone hiking and it didn't bother the solar panels at all. I wiped them off and went back to charging things. The main reason i chose this model is for its durability, flexibility and folding to a small size. It has more than lived up to those three things.

I bought one of these about a year ago for an emergency kit, along with a Duracell Mobile Charger and some rechargeable AAs. This combination has been fantastic for me! I make sure everything in my kit runs AAs, (or cranks, or is solar itself). With this combo, I can charge pretty much anything that holds it own charge or that takes AAs or AAAs. The Sunforce folds to about the size of an average hardcover book and is about the same weight. I have used it on sunny days, but have not tested its ability to charge on very cloudy or rainy days. I have used it hiking and it does an excellent job, just unroll it and attach it to the back of a pack so it can charge your stuff / batteries while you hike. It comes with a number of adapters so you can hook your electronics to it directly. I like it so much I am buying a second one so I don't keep robbing my e-kit for this one. For me, this is very convenient and so far has done exactly what its supposed to. For that reason I give it 5 stars, and will buy another. However, it tells you in the manual that it is possible to break this thing if you fold it incorrectly, and I can imagine a wire pulling out or a 100 other ways it might break. Therefore, if you are in a situation where you MUST have power (like one poor reviewer - stuck in the middle of the woods with no GPS when his Sunforce quit!) I would suggest you always have a backup plan.

This panel comes with almost every accessory in the accessory kit, but the description on Amazon wasn't clear. I'm returning the accessory kit today.

This little panel is pretty nice. It is a little on the 'cheap' feeling side, but it works well and looks to be durable enough although I have not done more than basic testing yet. I have yet to decide whether I would have bought it for $80 if i saw it in the store. I'm a solid 'maybe' on it still. I might have bought this one instead: Powerfilm Usb Aa Solar Panel Charger

Bought this unit to use on my portable backpacking solar system. The panel itself is very portable and is securely mounted on thick ripstop nylon prefolded and prefitted with connection points making it idle for taking on the trail (or road) I get about half an amp at 12 volts and can easily recharge my 10 amp/hour battery in one summer day as long as the battery is not totaly depleted. It could also be used as a battery tender on your dash board if you need to keep your battery maintained over a long period of time.
