Whether your living room is currently home to an HDTV or you're merely thinking of "someday," the DVD 8500 is ready to deliver the full potential of your DVDs. Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts.
The player's component-video outputs offer a choice of progressive and interlaced signals (YPbPr and YCbCr); interlaced component-video signals still minimize line-scan artifacts on compatible televisions, while composite- and S-video outputs bring compatibility with nearly any television.
When it's time to party, invite your friends over, pop in a karaoke CD or DVD, plug in a microphone or two, and you're ready for full-blown sing-along action, duets and all, with independent level controls for each mic input.
Both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround-sound signals can be routed through the player's digital-audio outputs (one each optical and coaxial) for direct connection to a full-featured audio/video receiver. Alternately, built-in Dolby Digital decoding lets you feed multichannel analog outputs to receivers with compatible multichannel inputs (many older models do not permit digital-audio connections).
A 192 kHz, 24-bit digital-to-analog converter ensures optimum decoding of all disc formats, including HDCD (High-Definition Compatible Digital), a 20-bit encoding method used on many commercial CDs to deliver better sound than is possible through standard CDs.
Playback options include overseas use (the player offers both NTSC and PAL video outputs and auto-switching 110 to 240V, 50 or 60 Hz power input), picture zoom with zoom panning, time search during playback, and a screen saver to prevent image burn-in if you keep a disc in pause mode for an extended period.
What's in the Box

Sungale/ Amoisonic -- A Descent to the Underworld,
By
This review is from: Sungale DVD 8500 Progressive-Scan DVD with Karaoke , Silver (Electronics)
My journey with Sungale and their incredibly crappy products began almost a YEAR ago when I purchased the Sungale 8208 (now discontinued). The first machine had a faulty menu and I was sent an upgrade disk that promptly fried the machine. The next one I got died after a month with the DVD still in it (explain that to Blockbuster!). The next machine did the same thing. By then they could no longer replace the 8208 so for the amazingly low sum of 39$ I could get their NEW model, the 8500. Well, this has shown up at my house sans manual, sans control and currently the menu screen is flipping around the TV with the colors inverted (and yeah, it was hooked up correctly).SO, after all this time I'm still waiting. Oh, did I mention the 20-45 minute wait times to customer service (the ones that keep you on hold so long the battery drains from your phone?) or the unanswered emails? I am locked in a Sysiphean battle I probably have no chance of winning, but I doggedly keep calling, keep returning the product, keep fighting in the hopes that SOMEDAY I will get a Sungale product that works. My only hope is that you who are reading this will buy something, ANYTHING but a Sungale product.

Good player, bad lifetime,
This review is from: Sungale DVD 8500 Progressive-Scan DVD with Karaoke , Silver (Electronics)
As everone else said, it's good while it lasts. I bought mine a year ago and it worked fine until recently. Now it squeeks loudly when playing DVDs and skips a lot. For the price, I think it was worth it - it lasted a good year for 70 bucks. Don't buy this if you want something that will last a while! It seems to have about a 1 year lifetime.
