These are a great pair of glasses, although a bit pricey.

I am severely annoyed though with the rubber sleeve on the frame that goes over the ear. This rubber can slip off when taking off your glasses, if you're wearing a hat over your ears and glasses. Without the rubber, you are left with a sharp narrow piece of steel. I am afraid of wearing these great glasses now, for fear I may accidentally lance my eye ball while putting them on.

I have had these glasses for a few years. They were demoted to "backup" status after a year because the polarization film (purple-ish coating on inside of lenses) easily wears off and they are now distracting to look through. I am dissapointed because I have always thought of Ray-Ban as a quality company but this shortcut is inexcusable, especially for a $130 pair of shades. I bought a pair of polarized glasses from another quality company and I'm more satisfied because the polarization is encased between two optical quality scratch-proof lenses (with lifetime warranty), so there is no way it can be worn off. This method is how many other quality companies make polarized lenses, but maybe it's just not possible with glass lenses like Ray Ban uses. As a side note, I kept the Ray-Bans in the supplied case almost obsessively so it is not like they were abused. From a style standpoint, they resemble "Mr. Smith" from the matrix, which I didn't realize until I walked into work wearing them with a suit and received some remarks, but this did not factor into my rating.

These are lightweight, sleek and almost everything I wanted in a pair of sunglasses. Let me also say, I really wanted to like these.

I would venture to say you will either love them or decide they aren't for you.

My two complaints:

1) The screws that held the nose bridge on serves as a distraction, almost like there is a smudge on the lenses. Also, the sunlight can reflect off those screws unexpectedly, making for an inconsistence experience while wearing.

2) The rubber on the arms detaches fairly easily. I hadn't spent much time with these glasses, but it was noticeable issue and I could see how this might become a problem for someone who wears a hat or some other accessory that might tug on it.


They are well built overall and I would recommend them, but I don't think the style is for everyone, especially for people as particular as me. Good luck.

I purchased 3179-004/9A, but Amazon sent 3179-006/71. The pair they sent were cheaper then what I ordered. The Ray-Ban box was all beat up as well. I noticed a few other people had the same problem. It might be best to purchase this item somewhere else.

Had this style for years and just bought another pair. Very durable, practical for driving... and they look good!

I got these glasses and I noticed that they were made in China, so I was wondering if these were fake,

from what i see the typings on the temples are not in a single line for example on the left one it says'

I purchased these sunglasses for my husband as a Chrstmas gift. It was just as advertised.

Only thing I wasn't happy about was the 14 day return policy.. I hope they don't break because he won't even see them for another month. Also for something that was over $80, I would have preferred there was free shipping.

A bit pricey, but most Ray-Bans are...

The quality seems pretty decent, and I think the style is cool, without being overly trendy. I think this will still look good years from now. The optics seem excellent - no abberations near the edges of the lens like less expensive brands might have. The comfort is outstanding.

I purchased the Gunmetal/APX Gradient Brown version of these and absolutely love the look, feel & eye protection these galsses provide. The problem is that ear socks (cushions) fall appart in less than a years time. If the rubber ear piece/boot isn't falling off entirely, then they're drying up into small pieces and crumbling off.

I sent my 1st pair back to Ray-Ban (Luxottica) after less than a year and they replaced the glasses (for a handling fee of $12.50). Now, less than a year since the replacement, the exact same thing is happening. These glasses are stored in the sun glasses "cubby" of a 3rd car that I don't often drive so I know it's not a result of excessive use or poor care. Compatible ear pieces themselves are not easy to find either, else I grab a bunch and deal with it.

I suspect it would have cost Ray-Ban an extra dollar(?) to use better quality ear socks? For the money paid, I would have expected far better quality. Needless to say, I'm off Ray-Ban products.
