I just received two of these devices and tested one of them. It seems to work well. Auto channel scanning is fast. You can also manually scan individual channels. It has a signal meter which is useful for antenna aiming. And you can choose how to display widescreen pictures (squished to 4:3, letterboxed, or zoomed).

The device has a plastic case, with very small cooling holes on top. I would worry about how long it will last with possibly inadequate cooling. Also, the remote control has a very flimsy battery cover. It has already begun to crack after opening it only twice.

My 1st one lasted about 1 month & died. Sent it back for replacement. The second one lasted about 1 month then it died too.

Don't buy a Sunkey SK-801ATSC there is a major flaw in the design. These units are nothing but trouble.

We bought this converter box in June and it completely died out on us two weeks ago (Around August 14th). So it lasted about 2 months. We tried unplugging and plugging everything back in. All that happens is the red standby light turns on for about 3 seconds and then shuts back off. Everytime we try to turn it back on, the converter box is hot to the touch! As if it permanently overheated. Definitely not worth spending your DTV Coupon/money on!

I love this converter box, hasa 7 day guide, just like sat...Great picture now..I love IT...very good box for 45 bucks.

This converter box is one of the cheaper ones but it doesn't pick up many channels. I wonder if I'm just not in range or because of my rabbit ears. It does provide a good picture and is very easy to use. Just make sure you get some good rabbit ears or hdtv reception to catch signals.

I would recommend this as long as you get something that can catch good signal.

I have tried magnavox junk 5 other brands this sunkey has easy options easy to use I lives in a real fringe area other converters i tried no siginal bought amp cleaned antenna new r6 coax still nothing till I ran across this sunkey I use it every day now bout 9 months or longer had a cold or bad solder joint on the remote control optic sensor a few min with a solder pen back to fine shape I think wife knocked it off the tv that cause that problem would well recomend this box!!

I have two Sunkey SK-801ATSC boxes, when they worked they had great picture quality and sound. One had a detailed one week EPG mode, but it was buggy (the screen would keep on resetting). One of the two Sunkey boxes died about a year ago, the other died last night. When I plug them in, the on/standby light lights up as red (which is what it should do). If I then press the on button on the box or on the remote, the light will change to green (which is what it should do). But there is no picture, that is, it transmits a black screen image to the TV [whatever it does it results in the TV showing a black screen image, whereas when the box is turned off, the screen image on my TV-VCR system set up is blue]. Once the light on the box has turned to green, there is no way to turn off the box except by unplugging it. Neither pressing the power button on the box nor on the remote control turns it off. Has anyone found a way to fix the Sunkey SK-801ATSC? Can the boxes be reset by sending a specific signal to a connector in the converter box (perhaps to an internal connector after removing the lid)? None of my boxes ever ran hot (the boxes never felt hot when I touched its case). I gave the boxes a low review, because the boxes died, when they should keep working for many years like other brands of electronics.

If you have a chance to purchase one of these DON'T!!! I bought two of them a few months ago before my coupons expired. They were $40 each totally paid for by the coupons. I bought them for my summer home. After winters end I went up to the summer home and connected the converter boxes only to find out that one of them did not work at all and the other one displayed such a poor picture that it was unwatchable. Unfortunately for me I assumed they would work and did not try them until after it was too late to return them. I have several other converter boxes by Digital Stream and Zenith. They cost a little more but they work fine. Don't even consider buying one of these. THEY ARE TOTALLY JUNK!!! TOTAL WASTE OF MONEY!!!

I purchased a Sunkey SK-801ATSC Digital Converter Box on October 21st 2009. This box now fails to function and I am under the impression there is a one year warranty? Who do I contact regarding this... I can't find a website and there are no details on the box/instruction manual.

Basically the power light turns on, but just a complete black screen appears on the TV.

I have 2 of these and gave one to my brother in law. It takes so long to switch channel that I thought the channel was not available. The box I gave away still worked for my brother in law but the AC adapter for mine is out.
