2.0 out of 5 stars slips easily, July 12, 2009

The splines on this tool did not mate perfectly onto my bottom bracket (bb). The engagement was very shallow and it tended to slip very easily. I was able to remove the plastic cup on the non-drive side, but my bb was stuck on the drive side and this tool just kept slipping.

I followed some advice I found on the internet and anchored the bb tool using the crank bolt and a cross bar. (I used a box wrench as I cross bar.) I clamped down the bb tool as tight as I could, but it still slipped before I could exert enough torque to remove the bottom bracket. I eventually gave up and brought my bike to a local bike shop. They charged me $10 to remove the bb.

Another issue I had with this tool -- the hex side was a huge 1.25". I had to buy an extra-wide adjustable wrench to get a decent grip on it.

Bottom line, this might work for you if you're removing a fairly new bb that hasn't seized-up yet, and you have a large enough wrench. But for the most part, I would not recommend this to anyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worked really well, May 27, 2010

This tool worked great on my mountain bike. It was useful for removing the old bottom bracket and installing the new one. No complaints, it was easy enough to use with a 12' adjustable spanner, one could also use poly-grips with it.
My bike is a 2008 so I can't say that it would work as well on an older bike that has maybe rusted-up a little, but I can't complain about my own experiences with it!
