Genevieve Williams is offbase,
By Matthew Neil (Minneapolis, MN United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sunmachine (Audio CD)
Whoever Genevieve Williams is, she is totally offbase in her editorial review of Sunmachine. This cd is a brilliant compilation of many styles of music. It is a fabulous adventure for the listener. "Carnival" is currently one of my favorite songs. Having studied instrumentation, style, and composition, I would have never imagined a mix of Spanish trumpets, bagpipe/drumcore, and electronic music being combined into a spectacular dance number. And as for Genevieve's remark that little music is memorable from this cd, after only one hearing, I was drawn to listen repeatedly because melodies, rhythms, and unique instrumentations were stuck in my head. I HIGHLY recommend this cd to anyone.

I first heard the opening track from this CD(Sunchyme)on the radio. I called the radio station to get the name of the artist and I went and bought the cd. I truly love this cd and I find it to be a great cd for the music lover no matter what music you like. It has wonderful beats and you can hear the passion of the artists through their creations on this album. It's one of my favorites and I recommend it to anyone. Go out and buy this cd, sit, and enjoy!!--jeff

Effortlessly enjoyable,

I didn't own this CD a week ago, and now I can't get it out of my head. On first listening I realized I have heard much of this before, on TV and some commercials. And the opener, Sunchyme, is a beautiful remake of 'Life in a Northern Town' from the Dream Academy's 1985 album, honest to the original, but even more joyous and totally uplifting. I've struggled through all types of music in my life, always looking for those nuggets of good feeling and emotion, and sometimes trying to like music that wasn't touching my heart and soul. I don't think I've ever stumbled on a release which so fully expresses what fun music can sound like. Not hard at all. Just turn it on and it will turn you on.

I had this cd a long, long time. It is still in my collection of top cds. This cd introduced me to edm very early, I later moved on to the trance genre, but these songs are unforgetable. If you enjoy listening to uplifting tracks and dont mind a bit of a mix up in your track selection, then this cd is for you. Speaks for itself when one song was a massive signle, another the theme to the fifa world cup, and another the theme song for a movie, all this on one cd. Despite what some people say, the other tracks on the cd are very enjoyable and offer something different without the constant repetition you will find today. Josephll "Josephll", all i have to say is that you are quite wrong with your facts, and before you review this learn about the producers so you dont mislead people, yes there is an s there, seeing as there is more then one producer. As a matter of fact, Dario G is not a DJ either, then again its more then one person - Dario G are actually three young men from the north of England and Wales. Paul Spencer, Scott Rosser, and Stephen Spencer. No harm intended, just wanted to get it clear. Overall Amazing cd, 5 from 5, incredible songs, none of which sound the same as the other (with the exception of the last track which blends them all together in a nice downtempo mix). 5/5, and I highly recomend people go buy this whether you like trance or classical or whatever, im sure you will grow to love this cd.

If anyone says this CD is bad, they have NO musical taste what so ever! Dario G sparked my interested in Electronic music (techno, trance, etc.) Tracks 1,3,4 are awesome! The CD should be bought just for those 3 songs. Voices & Sunmachine are 2 of my favorite songs ever. Dario G has some other great music too but it can be a challange to find it. Here are there good tracks: Deja Vu; Destination Calling; One More Day; Say What's on Your Mind; Strobe; Sunchyme; Sunmachine; Voices.

Not your typical Dance Album,
By

Dario G, a production team from North England, craft highly amusing Dance pop that is at times trite due to repetativeness. Though there are some definate good moments on this album.
Sunchyme- A track that certainly lives up to its name while setting the pace for the entire album. A bright house gem built around a sample from The Dream Academy's "Life in A Northern Town" Carnival De Paris- Quite perhaps the most unusual House song ever produced. Whoever heard of using bagpipes in a dance song? An uplifting charmer one might use to cover an international competition (oh wait it was). Sunmachine- This song takes a stab at making David Bowie's "Memory of a Free Festival" from Space Oddity a bit more..um memorable and succeeds. Bowie liked the song so much he gave the band the original demo of the song to sample. Add to that a piano, organ and a flute(played by Bowie's producer no less) and you have a track that's not only memoorable but 50 times better than the original Bowie record. Voices- Possibly the only redeeming quality about the Leonardo DiCaprio film The Beach. A beautiful voice over an even more beautiful melody. Be My Friend- Filler but beautiful vocals. Peaches- Enigma-esque downtempo melody combined with a tech-house rythem. Malaway- Tech house with a tribal chant. Amusing but not memorable. Revolution- A protest House song. Hmmm Voices- A stipped down version of the track. End of the Beginning- The album comes to a close with an early version of Sunmachine. The David Bowie album version of the sample being played over an ambient Sunchyme. A bit long but a nice way to end things. Overall, this album proves that the boys of Dario G are have an eve for producing, but not every song is memorable.

While not brilliant, a good escape,

Interesting mix here, folks. I love most of this album, and that is why I can only give it four stars. Sunchyme is an eye-opening tune, one that will have you putting "repeat" on it over and over. Carnaval de Paris is a good eclectic mix of sound. Voices is a trancendental piece, you could sleep to it. The rest sort of leaves stuff to be desired. A good effort, and I love the concept of trying something new, but Dario G has sort of missed the mark... if you like this, try Way out West, a better mix of eclectic tunes, some that leave you dancing and some that leave you wondering...

...And that's coming from a guy who doesnt like Dance &Techno!!,

The album is absolutly awesome. When someone told me about these guys the first thing I said was, "No thanks, I dont listen to dance music," but she said, "No no it's not your typical kind of Dance music." So I took a chance and got it and I'm glad I did. This CD is almost euphoric. "Sunchyme" is such a awesome song that I decided to name my cat after it. (crazy I know) The song just keeps building and building for three minutes until you get to the whole gist of it. "Malaway" trips me out, and "Peaches" almost sounds like an electronic mix from the 80's. The accoustic version of "Voices" is absolutly beautiful and gives me goosebumps everytime I hear it. That song was also featured in 2000 movie "The Beach." which made the movie in my opinion, and I didnt even know who Dario G was at the time. This CD is just great. You don't want to dance to it, you want to lay back and daydream to it. At least thats what I feel like doing to "End of the Beginning." this CD is absolutly perfect for a rainy day. You may find the music a little repetitious, but that is common considering the genre. For those who DON"T like Dance and Techno, at least give this CD a try! This CD is trully one of the best CD's I've ever owned, yet amazingly most people in the US have never heard of it. I sure didn't.

I found the album strangely appealing and yet I can sense how "vapid" describes the rhythms...it means flat and uninteresting by the way. On the contrary I felt my spirits uplifted by the music. I think you will too.
