Exactly what I was hoping it would be,
By Daisymayfattypants "DMFP" (Denver) - See all my reviews I, too, found that the tension setting doesn't make much of a difference, although it got a little tighter with more turns that I would have thought necessary. But sitting here pedaling away for a half hour felt like it lasted about a minute as I surfed and worked and allegedly--according to the calorie counter--burned about 250 calories. I did break a sweat in my air-conditioned livingroom. I expect to find myself pedaling off and on all day without even thinking about it, and I don't have to leave my work and carve out a half hour or an hour to get in a bit of daily exercise. That leaves me all the more time for my kids and family time when everyone gets home from school and work. The pedals can be a tad slippery, but I pedal barefooted and maintain traction that way. Your desk, of course, needs to have clearance for your knees, although it is possible to turn a little sideways and pedal just off to the side of your desk while still being online or doing other work. Also, you can pedal with your hands to get a bit of an aerobic and upper-body workout in. That precludes surfing or typing, so get something good to read in front of you! Overall, exactly what I wanted and what I hoped it would be, tension notwithstanding.

The Sunny Health & Fitness Mini Cycle is even better quality then what I expected for the price! It is VERY sturdy and does not slide on the floor or table. For ėmpty nesters" who are trying to downsize but still want some sort of exercise equipment for those rainy or inclement days--this is great. It stores in a closet very easily. I am handicapped and I am able to sit in a comfortable position, infront of the TV and exercise my leg muscles, yet pick this up and put it on a table for upper body strengthening. TERRIFIC BUY!

I've seen a lot of people mention problems with the tension on this and there is an easy fix for that. When you first get the unit the band that controls the tensions tends to stretch out a bit, after the initial stretch if you make this adjustment you shouldn't have to do it again for a very long time. There are 2 screws on the sides below each pedal, remove these and the plastic piece slides out from below the pedal. There is one screw in the center of the tension control nob, remove that then pull the nob off (it may be a little tight as mine was). Remove the calorie meter and there should be a button release to detatch the cable. Now the whole cowling of the unit should slide right off. Turn the tension knob as far out as it will go (counterclockwise). You will find a strap and latch, very similar to ones you might find on a backpack. Release the latch, and pull the strap till it is tight, then close the latch. Now reverse the process to re-assemble and you should be good to go.
One problem I did have with the unit is a bearing in one of the pedals after just a few days of use. The pedals are kinda cheap so I was planning on replacing them anyway with some bike pedals with rat traps. They are standard bike pedals so finding replacements shouldn't be to big of a problem.

The calorie counter seemed like a great feature, but all it does is increment by a fixed number of calories per rotation, no matter how you set the resistance. As if that weren't bogus enough, the number it increments by is something like 0.3, so pedaling only once per second, you would get an absurdly high figure of 600 calories in a half hour. The "computer" is worthless.
Next, let's talk about the build quality. Looks good in the photo, right? I can assure you the housing is made of the cheapest plastic. Ours arrived with a corner chipped out of it. Sure, it was poorly packed, but the box was in good condition, so it clearly had not been bashed around too much. Finally, it arrived without several bolts required for final assembly. At least the vendor processed the return promptly and without fuss. Since I'm still out return postage, I'll call that my gym fee for the season and just do laps up and down the stairs at commercial breaks until the winter weather blows over.

good idea, not so good a product,

from the first use, I had to take it apart and tighten the belt, as the resistance, even with the notch at maximum, was minimal. Than it started to make a noise - one or two days later - I had to open it, again, to shave some of the plastic case that was rubbing against the shaft of the pedal on one side. Finally, as the bike continued to make a noise, i opened it for the third time, only to understand that the metalic pedal axis is turning inside a PLASTIC joint. I strongly considered sending it back - I will think some more. For now, it works, but for how long?

I was disappointed with product. I bought it to do arm exercises that help with my neck problem. The product info showed it worked for both legs and arms, but when I tried to use for arms it kept wanting to lift from the table and shift. Tried on a couple of different tables and heights. Unfortunately, I ended up returniong it for a refund. So remember to keep the box all the stuff inside if your going to give this product a try.

I am an active person with a desk job and I got this little device so I could be a little less sedentary while at work all day. My biggest fear would be that I wouldn't be able to pedal under the desk but it seems to fit quite nicely, although I am short (5'3). Yes there does seem to be a slight hissing when you turn up the tension but this does not bother me since I'm using it really for movement rather than exercise.
I think the calorie read out is complete crap, I'd have to be sprinting to burn as many calories as they are saying I'm burning sitting behind a desk but the rotation and time are helpful. This is a great value for the money (especially with the free shipping), very sturdy, very practical. I plan on purchasing another to leave at home in front of the television and possibly another for my mom! |
