Maria Muldaur and child for children (and adults),
By
This review is from: On the Sunny Side (Audio CD)
I've been a fan of Maria Muldaur since her Jim Kweskin days so I'll admit to being biased. However, this is an excellent album for introducing children to American classics such as "Mocking Bird Hill" or "On the Sunny Side of the Street"; it includes humor from the Jim Kweskin days "Never Swat a Fly"; the Mama Cass "Dream a Little Dream" ... the result is an album enjoyable by children and adults i.e. just what you need for a trip. The use of her daughter on the album is not a gimmick - it works. Her daughter is musical and her presence helps the album project a playful tone. Maria Muldaur is not playing down to children - she is raising the children up to adult music standards.

What a Wonderful Album,

I got my first CD player when I was about ten. My Aunt Gave me several wonderful CD's from the Music for Little People catalog. THIS was one of the best. It has favorite songs like, Would You Like To Swing on a Star? and Side By Side. It is also wonderful for grownups to enjoy. At the age of eighteen, I still listen to it. The songs can help you direct your feet, to the SUNNY SIDE OF THE STREET! Good Job Maria!

Easy Listening for Adults or Children,
By
This review is from: On the Sunny Side (Audio CD)
Maria Muldaur has done it all. After the Jim Kweskin Jug Band, she went on to debut on her own with the album simply titled "Maria Muldaur". Some people considered her a one-hit wonder with "Midnight at the Oasis" on that album. Then she started making albums aimed at children. Besides this one, there is the album "Swinging on a Star", which is good too. There may be others, but these two are readily available. Then Maria went on to do a number of the best blues albums ever. Whatever she does, it's great and this is a fun album. While it is called an album for kids, it is just as enjoyable for adults. The kids that accompany her in some of the songs are great too. Side by Side has an adult accompanying (Fred Penner); he also accompanies on another song. Coat of Many Colors features Maria's daughter, Jennie May and she does an admirable job on the song. It's a totally satisfying album and very different than Maria's early efforts or her more current blues albums. The sound is clear and the album is relaxing and enjoyable. Nice album to listen to after a hard or bad day. Bird sounds in Mocking Bird Hill add some fun to a song that has otherwise been done to death by so many artists. It has a fresh sound here, as do most of the songs on this album. Nice arrangements here.

WONDERFUL!,

I just got this from our local library after tiring of all the standard children's songs done 100 different ways. I LOVE this CD, and can't wait for my 10-month old son to wake up so we can play it again and dance around the living room. It truly does raise the bar for children's music. It's lively, fun and the songs are easy to learn so you can sing along (and if you don't want to learn them, the words are all enclosed!). I plan to buy her other children's CD's to add to our collection.

I found this tape in the public library for my daughter when she was a toddler (now almost eight!). We absolutely loved it! The songs are unique and original and it was just such a "sunny " time when we listened to it! The title is certainly appropriate! I would recommend this to everyone with young children...what a great way to start their young lives off on the "sunny side"!

This cd is one of 4 that i ordered from the MFLP catalog, and its by far my favorite. My five year old daughter and i have even sung some of the songs at a local nursing home and the residents there loved them, this cd introduced my daughter to a whole different type of music, one she would never have heard otherwise.BUY IT!!

We happened accross a tape of "On The Sunny Side" by accident on a recent vacation. Our kids fell in love with the songs, and we all had a wonderful time singing along with Maria in the car. Needless to say, the tape is in sorry shape now, we've pretty much worn it out. I have since purchased the CD, this one's definitely a keeper. Our kids LOVE it, and I have to admit, I have a hard time getting the songs out of my head (in a good way). The music leaves me feeling good for days.
