I have been a huge Richard Cheese fan since I heard him a few years ago. I own all of his albums. They swing, baby.
Here's the problem with SSotM: TBoRC - It is not really a best of album. It's a hodge-podge of tracks. Included are: *"Big Band Versions" of songs from his first (poorly produced) album with additional instruments dubbed over it...not dubbed well, either. *A few sparse tracks from his middle 3 albums *A couple of new tracks that are good, but not as good as his middle 3 albums *A recycled cover from his list of "spoof" albums that don't really exist If you are a completist and a fan, then buy this album. If you are new to Dick, then I recommend the albums in this order: I'd Like a Virgin Tuxicity Apertif for Destruction Lounge Against the Machine SSotM: TBoRC

I have to say, I bought this CD on a Lark, thinking it would be OK, and (pardon the pun) cheesy. It is actually really good. Richard Cheese and his band Lounge Against the Machine takes popular songs from various genres and sings them lounge style. The effect is both impressive and slightly humorous.
This CD will not be for everyone, but if you are looking for a different take on your favorite songs, this is the CD for you.

I'll tell youse something...Richard Cheese is the most funny, lounge-lizzard style singer I'ver ever heard! For the love of God, country or money--I can not stop playing this disc! Snoop Dogg's [did I spell that right?], "Gin and Juice" is an absolute joy to hear! In fact, there's not a dogg in this pack of 'old tunes'. Well, you see, these are NOT old tunes at all, rather current songs by the likes of; Limp Bisquit, Nirvana, The Beastie-Boys, and many others--all re-invented, decontructed and/or manipulated by Mr. Cheese and his fabulous big band!
At times the music sweeps you away--then, you notice the oftimes bizzare lyrics--it's then you realize you have Richard Cheese playing. I whole-heartedly recommend, "The Sunny-Side of the Moon"! It's, ironically, the freshest music I've heard in years!

Not Explicit Lyrics-misleading,
This review is from: The Sunny Side of the Moon: The Best of Richard Cheese (Audio CD)
I just bought the MP3 album and this does not have the explicit lyrics. The bad words are like you would hear if you were listening to it on the radio, you can't hear them. ARGH! I want my dirty words! I am very disappointed. Shame on Amazon.

The joy of Dick Cheese,

Once again Richard Cheese gives us his take on todays music and at times out does the original. As much as I loved the cheesy lounge act synthasizer sound of his first album, he truely shines with the big band.
A note to Robert Williams, Reviewer. You may wish to get your facts straight. Its very hard to find Nine Inch Nails and Nirvana in a rap section of the local store. Nor have I ever heard Closer or Rape Me, let alone Smells Like Teen Spirt or Hurt on any of the far to many hip hop stations there are in this country. If Richard Cheese is as close as you are to modern music then you have certinaly picked an excellent choice, but please do not catagory all his music under rap, some of us find it insulting.

Your favorite songs set to lounge. It's so wrong and yet so right. You'll laugh as you sing along.

lounge music versions of popular songs,

If you haven't heard this type of music, it's funny. Quite humorious to hear old rap songs turned into lounge music. But gets old quick. Good for an easy joke at social settings.

The CD is great, but I have a couple of general comments for all RC's recordings. Why are the songs always so short? Give us 2-2.5 minutes at least. Some songs start out good and then dissolve into RC yelling at his band, this is not so entertaining. RC's raw voice is good, but it's the skill from lessons, practice and vocal tricks that make it WOW. He had to learn that control, it not something that you can just get up and do without a lot of work and inspiration.
Unfortunately, RC is having vocal cord problems and is not able to reach the high notes or sing effortlessly like he used to. His recent recordings are rather careful and plodding, but he had a great 8 year run and he should hang it up, until he finds some sort of vocal treatment that works. HEY..wouldn't it be great if Richard Cheese got his vocal cords removed and had to sing "Baby Got Back" with an ElectroLarynx? ...Now that's Entertainment!

You won't be able to listen to this in the car with the kids (too profane) and the one joke repitition wears a bit. Having said that, a must buy that is laugh out loud funny. It calls to mind the Bill Murray "Nick Lava" lounge singer bit, only better since this guy can actually sing. Would make a great gift, although I'm not sure for what holiday.
