Used 3 times and isn't working.
Lori Brown
No matter how careful I am inserting the CF card into the slot, it isn't snug enough to safely hold the card and I've bent one of the pins a few times.
Melissa McGhee
I purchased the Sunpak so I would have the availability of both the CF and SIM readers.

I absolutely agree with what everyone has said about this card reader. Like most SunPak products, it is made cheaply by what I can only imagine are people with poor vision or robots that have a checkered service history.

That being said, I have been using this low cost card reader for about a year now and it's still plugging along. There are 2 design flaws. Firstly, the male USB end is designed to snap around the reader body and store away in a housing. This is great, except that the cord on the USB is really low quality, and mine definitely pulled out of the body slightly. Secondly, the CF slot is very shallow. Take note of which way your card goes in or you could easily bend the pins trying to "convince" your card to go in. Being SunPak, the card (of course) goes with the front facing down. Just for fun I guess.

Long story short, it's cheap and works. If you treat it with care and use it gingerly, it will last. If you don't want to have to worry about that, don't buy it.

I bought this at a retail store and while I was originally somewhat impressed by it's small size, it did feel a bit cheap to me.

The cheapness proved to be true as soon as I tried reading a compact flash card.

The slot for the card is very shallow and allows the card to go in crooked which caused the pins inside to get all bent, making the reader instantly unusable for reading a CF card. :-(

I just threw this thing in the trash.

There is far better out there.

Bought it today specifically for the SIM card reader. Went to Sunpaks site, downloaded the software and installed. Plugged the card reader into the USB slot. Waited for it to be recognized. Inserted the SIM card. Ran the Sim card software and it worked fine for me. Loaded the SIM card data, exported to a file and then imported that file onto a different SIM card. No problems. Oh, and the SIM card ... was from a pay as you go phone.

I forced myself to go in to that ***mart store because I needed a new CF card reader in a pinch after my Sandisk card reader I'd had for at least 8 years finally pooped after thousands upon thousands of image uploads/downloads/whatever. There aren't many choices anymore for cf readers unless you order them online (and I had to get one right away), so I chose this Sunpak because it looked pretty compact and would be easy to travel with. I've had it less than a month and it's completely worthless. I wouldn't bother writing this review, except that I'm on a photo shoot in the middle of nowhere and am COMPLETELY inconvenienced right now since I'm unable to transfer my images from my card to hard drive. I'd hate for anyone else to be stuck in the bind I'm in right now.
No matter how careful I am inserting the CF card into the slot, it isn't snug enough to safely hold the card and I've bent one of the pins a few times. Maybe the other card slots work wonderfully- I haven't tried any of the other apparent 71 ways you can read a card, but do NOT buy this with the intention of reading CF cards.
I guess I was pretty lucky with my last reader lasting so long with no problems that I was shocked this couldn't even handle less than 15-20 or so reads. I'm very disappointed and doubtful I will be able to get my money back without the package that I JUST finally threw away last week.

I believe this is a generic product which different makers slap their name on it and change the cover slightly, such as the Vivitar 72-in-1 Memory Card. I bought the Sunpak version. This thing is worthless for reading the SIM cards out of my Net10 cellphone. I followed the directions on 2 different computer. I tried using the company SIM card reading software and a 3rd party software. I could see the capacity of the SIM card on the company software and the last numbers dialed on the 3rd part software, but nothing. I couldn't load the messages or the phone book. The Vivitar 72-in-1 received equally negative reviews. I additionally couldn't find any online trouble shooting information. I'm returning it to the store tomorrow.

I really like the small size and the way the usb cable is attached to the reader. I can keep this in my pocket all day on a shoot and without issue and the use it to quickly dump cards. I bought this at a big box store, and the only reason I'm looking it up again now, is because I am interested to know if there is a usb 3.0 version because I'd love to purchase it again.

Pros:

Small, compact size
No unwieldy cable to keep track of
Reads many types of cards

Cons:

Some may not appreciate the cord being attached to the reader
CF cards can be tricky to slide into the slot if you're not paying attention.
Somewhat slow (probably due to usb 2.0 capability rather than the reader itself)

Overall, I would definitely buy again, and sincerely hope there is an equivalent usb 3.0 version out there.

I got it to add to my netbook bag. I have several card readers that are much more robust and sturdy. The slots on this have poor tolerance so the card can slid in the wrong way. You can't use any Sim software as I have another dedicated sim reader and that software will not see the Sunpak. I downloaded Sunpaks SIM manager software and it does read and write sims. It seems to work fine with Micro and SD cards as well but have no older Compact cards to see if the pins bend like others have mentioned. The reader seems comparable in quality to the 4 port USB hubs I have purchased at the Dollar Tree or 99c store. I would not pay another $20 for this but i would get another if I saw it at the dollar stores.
