Product Description

From the Manufacturer

The Sunpak PZ40X II--an upgrade over the original PZ40X--is a powerful, full-featured, lightweight, shoe-mount electronic flash unit designed for all Canon EOS TTL, E-TTL, and E-TTL II cameras, including the top-selling Canon Rebel, Rebel XT, and EOS 20D. The flash is backwards-compatible, with TTL metering for all TTL flash Canon cameras, but also works manually with nondedicated cameras employing a single- contact hot shoe. And even though it's 40 percent smaller and significantly lighter than previous flash units with the same features, the flash offers an impressive ISO guide number that ranges from 60 at the 24mm zoom-head setting to 120 at 80mm. The PZ40X II offers such advanced features as E-TTL auto flash; a large, full-info, backlit LCD for controlling and monitoring all settings; and a power zoom-bounce flash head covering 35mm focal lengths (from 24 to 80mm) in continuously variable auto mode or five manual steps. Tilt positions range from zero to straight up for maximum bounce flexibility, while the built-in, near-IR auto-focus-assist beam turns on automatically when needed. Other details include five power ratio settings down to 1/16, flash exposure confirmation, a bar graph flash range display, and power-saving circuitry that automatically sets the unit to standby mode after five minutes. The Sunpak PZ40X II is powered by two AA alkaline, NiMH, or ni-cad batteries and comes in an all-silver finish.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sunpak PZ40X Versatile Traveler, August 5, 2007

The Sunpak PZ40X II is small and capable. Great TTL compatibility with bounce and auto-zoom head. This is a great little flash for traveling. Enough flashes from two AA to save your camera charge. Just enough range for average shooting. May be a light-weight for "pros", but a great back-up. Would prefer black color versions rather than the metallic color which accentuates scratches and matches only a few cameras.

Great for casual use.

I like the flash, but I have read some reviews that say you have to watch how fast you use it, so if you plan to use it a lot at a time do some more research, and make sure it is what you want. If you going to use it once or twice and then wait a few min you will be fine. As I said in the title it is great for casual use.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great on size, questionable performance, May 12, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Sunpak PZ40X II Power Zoom Digital Flash for all Canon EOS TTL, E-TTL and E-TTL II Cameras (Silver) (Electronics)
Bought this flash for my Canon Rebel XT based on size, features, and price. I loved the size and weight compared to what I'm used to from my 35mm days. I also like the auto zoom feature. However, when I tried out the bounce feature, even at close (~5ft) range with a white ceiling, the photos came out dark. The flash indicator confirmed "OK". This is not acceptable. I phoned Tocad customer support and had to leave a message, and it took them a few days to respond, by which time I returned the unit.
