4.0 out of 5 stars Noisy but effective
I am currently using this in an apartment sized bathroom. The bathroom has no ventilation or even AC so all the moisture just sits in there. It always smelled dank and musty in there, no matter what cleaning products I would use or deodorizers I'd setup in there. Within 24 hours of setting this little guy up(Sits on my bathroom sink countertop.) The smell was gone and it...

1.0 out of 5 stars Good for its size - UPDATE-UPDATE#2
I purchased this baby for a small, humid bedroom in a very humid climate to help the A/C unit remove moisture. It removes maybe a cup a day which probably helps overall, but does not make a tremendous difference in comfort level. It works steadily, but is probably too small for the task.
UPDATE: After a few months on effort, it began to make a loud, constant noise...

I am currently using this in an apartment sized bathroom. The bathroom has no ventilation or even AC so all the moisture just sits in there. It always smelled dank and musty in there, no matter what cleaning products I would use or deodorizers I'd setup in there. Within 24 hours of setting this little guy up(Sits on my bathroom sink countertop.) The smell was gone and it already had well over a cup of water in the tank. It also comes with a thin clear drain hose that allows it to run continuously without having to empty the tank. It has been running for about 2 months now without a single problem.

I only can see a few issues with this device.

1. To me it is loud. Very loud. While this isn't a problem for me due to where it is at, if you are looking to put this somewhere where you need or want quiet like a bedroom, I'd try to find something else. preferably fan-less if possible. (I can drown it out very easily with all the entertainment electronics I run throughout the apartment, but I could imagine it being a problem for someone trying to sleep with this thing running in the same room.

2. I don't care for the tank design. The one time I tried to empty the tank I spilled a good amount of the water into the machine just trying to pull the tank out. So I'd same make sure it's unplugged before emptying the tank. Also the hose comes off easily when I move the unit around which leads to another problem I have with the design. The hose connects to the very top of the tank, meaning the tank has to be full before it starts to drain through the hose. I can see why they did it this way but I would have preferred an option to go without a tank at all.

Of course they are just minor gripes to me. The product does its job well and I have yet to find anything else even close price-wise that can compete.

UPDATE: After a few months on effort, it began to make a loud, constant noise so I discontinued use.

UPDATE #2: Last summer was so hot and humid that I decided to give this unit one more chance. It takes a little finessing, but it is possible to stop the noise if you keep jiggling and thumping it. Once it runs quietly for a minute or two, it is usually good to go until you turn it off to empty the reservoir.

1.0 out of 5 stars Wouldn't dry a room the size of a pocker, September 20, 2011
This review is from: Sunpentown Mini Dehumidifier with TiO2 and UV light (Kitchen)
I bought this dehumidifier for a 200feet square college room. It sucks out nothing, takes at least a week of non stop air-sucking before it fills up with water. Completely useless and ridiculous! Instead we bout a 50pint dehumidifier which is only two times the price and it divided by two the humidity in less than a day. It took out more water in 5h than the Sunpentown in one week.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Satisfied, December 20, 2010
This review is from: Sunpentown Mini Dehumidifier with TiO2 and UV light (Kitchen)
The Mini Dehumidifier is the fourth Sunpentown dehumidifier we've purchased. The other three have been bigger models that we can recommend with absolutely no hesitation as one of them has been running constantly for three years without a problem (we live in an extremely humid environment west of the Cascades just above a year-round creek, so we can have major mold problems if we don't keep the humidity down). This little guy isn't quite up to the task of keeping the mold in our bathroom totally down, but certainly improves the situation there, and if it's anything like its big brothers should also be trouble-free. I am not convinced that the UV light is a good idea as it doesn't last forever and replacing it doesn't seem to be possible. I would also have preferred something intermediate in size between this one and its big brothers that we could have left on the bathroom floor where more of the humidity seems to be. However, we've got this guy mounted up on the wall and it's been steadily collecting water since installation, albeit slower than we prefer. All-in-all, a definite 4 star appliance and worth the money we spent for it.

This is my first Dehumidifier I've every bought so I can't compare to any other model. I use it to lower the humidity in my Tomato 6*6 grow tent. Hard to tell how much the RH goes down but it does fill up the res with about a inch of H2O each day.

In East Texas it is more humid than hot, so a small dehumidifier really helps keep things feeling cool.

I purchased this mini dehumidifier after my "Eva-Dry" lasted less than a year. It was great for the short time I had it (3 months!) Yesterday the motor started a loud rumble and sounds as if it is about to grind itself to a halt.

This is my last dehumidifier purchase. Sunpentown Mini Dehumidifier is a waste of money.

Since American corporations insist on having their products "manufactured" in China- appliances seldom last a year. I refuse to keep buying inferior products over and over again.

Now I shop for products that are physically made In the US, or Germany.

The quantity of water that this dehumidifier can pull out of the air is quite disappointing. I can't think of a situation where Id need a dehumidifier, but still want 90% humidity. This was the case even in a small bathroom, around 20 sq ft.

It may use Peltier cooling, but the fan is still plenty audible. It also turns out to be even louder when you know it isn't doing anything.
