Great product,
This review is from: Sunpentown SS-212 Fully Automatic 1-1/2-Liter Soymilk Maker (Kitchen)
I owned my first soybean milk maker by Sunpentown for more than 10 years and loved it very much. This time I needed a new one, so I researched a quite bit to see if other makers were catching up with Sunpentown and had anything better. Eventually I still decided to stay with Sunpentown and bought this model.
After a few months of using this one, I am not disappointed. It works great. This model has a new(additional) setting(that my old one did not have) which allows using dry beans directly without soaking them first. I have not tried the new setting yet. I still soak the beans first as an old habit. Also this model comes with a sturdy holder so when the central part is pulled out from the stainless steel pitcher, it can be securely placed in the holder, instead of inconveniently laying it on kitchen countertop or sink. I love this feature. I would recommend this product to anyone who likes soybean milk.

Sunpentown is a great product. I owned SoyaJoy, also a great product, but it failed after 15 months of one batch a day usage. But I think I had my money worth on SoyaJoy. I used to make soy milk manually (blender or grinder, cheesecloth filter, oven top cooking, and then cleaning afterwards), and that is what you call labor intensive. With these modern automatic soy milk makers, life is a lot easier. Sunpentown soy milk maker produces better soy milk than most of other similar makers out there, because its filter basket has finer holes that keeps most of the grainy stuff out of the milk, so the milk taste very similar to the milk I manually made. Cleaning Sunpentown is also easier than most of other makers, because of the heating element is actually attached to the milk container, instead of attaching to the head unit (grinding motor) which is always in the way when cleaning the unit head, not to mention it adds weight to the head also. Just be very careful the blades are really sharp. Follow the instruction carefully, and you will enjoy using this soy milk maker.
From reviews of most of soy milk makers I read, a lot of people try to compare the soy milk these machine made with store bought manufactured soy milk and complain about they taste no good. They are comparing oranges to apples. You should compare the milk these machine made to the manually made plain soy milk, then you will know how great these machine really are. Me and my whole family love the Sunpentown and the soy milk it makes, and I do hope it will last longer than the SoyaJoy that I used to enjoy a lot. Update (on Oct 26, 2010): The Sunpentown SS-212 is still working after 2 years of one batch every day(1.5L soy milk from soaked beans). Great product indeed. Update (on Oct 6, 2011): Well, it is October again and due for another update for this great product. After 3 years of daily services, the grinding blades are no longer sharp, the exterior show its age but it keep going and shows no sign of slowing down and the soy milk is still as tasty as day one. Need to say more?

good but not the best,

I bought this machine from Wal-mark online a couple of months ago. I used it almost every other day. It is quite noisy when grinding beans. I have to switch my making time from morning to evening. It generally works fine in making the milk. However, the machine is not well built (I always have my concerns about the quality of soy milk makers on market). I've already seen two long cracks at the bottom plastic support, and the deformation of the micro-filter.
Cleaning the maker is not easy. There are some areas that cannot be reached. Be vary careful about the blade. You can be cut by the blade.Sunpentown Soy Milk Maker

broke on several levels,
This review is from: Sunpentown SS-212 Fully Automatic 1-1/2-Liter Soymilk Maker (Kitchen)
Worked a total of seven times. It said you could use raw beans so i did; the result was a tear in the micro-filter - bummer. After that, there were always little bits of akara in my soymilk. Even worse, after the seventh usage it stopped working and just beeps randomly when plugged in. Not recommended at all. Giving it two stars instead of one because for those seven uses it was a heck of a lot easier than making the soy milk by hand.
Low quality product. Also i believe this is the exact same product as a Q'Tessence QT400 soymilk maker. !!! -greg

Messy after a year or so,

This review is from: Sunpentown SS-212 Fully Automatic 1-1/2-Liter Soymilk Maker (Kitchen)
It was working fine but after a year or so of using it, the soybean mixture began to burst out from the vent. It's during one of the grinding phases and the bursts of grinding sending the mixture out through the vent like Mount St. Helen. After the eruption, the whole pot is wasted and leaving a messy kitchen for me to clean up...

I have had this soymilk maker for just under a year and use it daily. In the past few months, it has really begun to deteriorate. I have noticed more of the grainy pulp getting inside the milk so I have had to start straining it through a nutmilk bag. Also, it now will turn off at random times during the cycle. It used to shut off only once--but now it will take 2-3 tries before it completes. I usually have to jiggle the plug around to get it to work. It has certainly paid itself off, but now I will be looking for another brand that is better built for frequent use and not quite as loud!

First of all, the product is actually bigger than I expected. It makes about less than 1.5 L bean milk, but the container itself is about 8 L big. This is the first soy milk maker that i have used. so far, so good. It only has 2 functions. one for dry beans, another is for soaked beans. the other function is for reheating, which I don't use. After all, you can always reheat the soymilk on the gas range or in the microwave. This concept is definitely good. I wonder why it is not popular in the US. You can't even buy it at the store, such as target, homedepot, etc; you can only buy this product online. They can easily set up a booth at each store, and let people try to drink the instant soy milk. I am sure that people will be buying it instantly. It is just that good. Why drink animal product - milk when you can drink the natural soy milk which is much better and safer. Now a gallon of milk costs more than $2.50 at least. It only costs maybe just 25 cents of soy beans to make about 1.4 L of soy milk. it is hot and tasty. I love it. the blender inside is very powerful, much better than the regular blender that i have. it blends the soy beans as tiny as sand. The older version has a big glass bottle and a heating rod, this new version is much better. cleaning takes about 5 minutes, so it is pretty good. My blender is more than 10 years old, I don't know if this product will last for a long time. So I am giving it a 4 star so far. yes, it is expensive comparing to a regular blender, but it is well worth the money. And this product is definitely better than some of the as-seen-on-tv products! If you like to drink healthy, you should buy it. So you can drink fresh soy milk daily! oh, yea, don't worry. if you can not buy dry soy beans at your local area. You can actually use other beans, such as red beans, black beans, etc. They taste just as good as soy beans. --- Update: After using it daily for more than ten months, I am still happy with the result. So I am upgradting it from 4 stars to 5 stars. This kind of machine should be called beanmilk maker. It is amazing what kind of things you can use to make the vegetable milk. I have tried rice, millet, red beans, black beans, soy beans, etc. I also like to put a little flax seeds, seasome, gin seng, gouji berries, etc. In the water, I sometimes put in the lemon grass. Every household should get this, it is good for your health! And beside this, every household should also get a breadmaker. So you can get fresh perfect bread everyday!

This is the very first soymilk maker that I've bought. The machine itself is very simple to use. The soymilk comes out very tasty, but a bit grainy. I'm not sure whether other machines are like this, but this is our only complaint about this machine otherwise it would have received a 5 star. We get around this by pouring the soymilk in a separate pitcher and letting the soymilk settle a bit before drinking. This way, the grainy parts of the milk are on the bottom of the pitcher. We like to sweeten it with a bit of agave nectar. This is much healthier than buying soymilk in the plastic containers.
