These were good shifters, but i would recommend going for something a little more expensive, like Shimano SIS or something. I had a problem, that now i realize was my derailleur, but the left shifter pretty much broke off. The main support parts on these is made up of plastic.

Just what I wanted. Comes with cables. Installed in minutes. Works like it should. Price was right too. I slipped off the bulky rubber cushions and use them with just the metal levers.

These are not really what I call a friction shifter since they have teeth to lock it in place. They will work for that but not quite as I though they would. For the price though they are good enough. I bought these because I can't get my gears to shift right with the normal shifter so I am using these since they don't need all the extra calibration. I just set the upper and lower limit and move the shifter until they are in gear. They work except one gear is not quite right. Good enough for me though.

I encourage any thumbshifter fans to get a pair while they are still here. These run on even 10 speeds if you don't mind going friction shift.
