Review
The opening track "The Luv" says it all: Rhodes-style organ, with shuffled hi-hats and snares, met by bongo percussion, smooth synth pads, a deep subtle bass line, broken bass kicks, and breathy male vocals. While Kimani sings throughout a number of the tracks on this album, the lyrics are often delivered like a vocal sample: a few simple verses repeated numerous times through the song. This style, while certainly a standard among many housey, nu jazz recordings, meshes with the music so well that it leaves even the vocal tracks sounding instrumental. It's hard to pick a handful of tracks that stand out above the rest, because the style and quality is pretty consistent the whole way through. While some tracks have a clean, martini lounge vibe, others have a gritty, mid-tempo, house groove, and others still strike a Nicola Conte note, or go deep into dubby echoes. Forced to choose however, I'd direct you toward "Une Nuit a Ramatuelle", "Feel High", "Another Day (dub vocal version)", and "Maybe Soul". --Properlychilled.com

Well received Kimani records include 12 inch EPs on Strictly Rhythm, i! Recordings, Groove On, K2 Recordings, Kumba Records, and Soul Boy Records. A full length CD, Afro Kozmik Soul, was released in 1999 on Step Ahead Records and saw the licensing of one of it's songs (Kozmik Listening 101) for The Spirit of the Street -The Very Best of Inner City Cool Part II compilation CD on London's JazzFM label. Additional work includes his downtempo/r&b production of "Whenever" on Jody Watley's Midnight Lounge album (joining the company of King Britt, Masters at Work, Ron Trent, and Dave Warrin.)
