4.0 out of 5 stars Sunrise to Sunset
Wright's latest offering, Sunrise to Sunset, is a big step forward from his debut. Simplistic melodies meet textured acoustics to create a pleasant, summer offering. Wright sings about themes of going to Heaven (Heaven), the need for personal redemption (Take My Life), the hope to start over (Sunrise to Sunset) and gratitude to God (Thank You). The disc sounds eerily...

2.0 out of 5 stars tongue and cheeky
The best stuff on his previous album is heartfelt, beachy and mixed with some reggae. He then went tongue and cheeky and backyard bar-b-que on us and it did not turn out well. Don't download the EPs following this (a couple of gems on there) but he gets back on track with Kingdom Come and Diego's Diary. Buy those.

Wright sings about themes of going to Heaven (Heaven), the need for personal redemption (Take My Life), the hope to start over (Sunrise to Sunset) and gratitude to God (Thank You). The disc sounds eerily similar to Mat Kearney's recent debut, but that is a good thing. Combining a bit of hip/hop, some light rap, a bit of reggae and placed over acoustic pop and you have Sunrise to Sunset.

5.0 out of 5 stars Paul delivers again., August 16, 2005

I was skeptical about the second release by Paul Wright, but I purchased it and I am very pleased. Paul has a different sound from his earlier album and from some of the acts nowdays. There is a blend of hip hop with acoustic melodies. The lyrics are uplifting and spiritual.

My favorite tracks is Heaven and Take This Life, which are awesome songs, just as the rest of them. If you are a fan of Tobymac and Mat Kearney, I recommend this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Folk & Hip-hop fused & fun, July 28, 2005
This review is from: Sunrise to Sunset (Audio CD)
I bought this album the day it came out & am not dissapointed. Paul's style has grown without becoming stale or cramped. He's got a great live show that I've seen twice & this just touches upon his abilities. I highly recommend it for anyone who needs their day improved from "Sunrise to Sunset".

5.0 out of 5 stars Mr. Wright Does It Right, January 10, 2008
This review is from: Sunrise to Sunset (Audio CD)
After Mr. Wright's stellar debut album, his sophomore had high expectations. However, there are some changes. Mainly the limiting of genres. The debut had a colorful cornucopia of genres, half of the genres, or more, have been cut. Another interesting thing is there's not many songs you can compare to the debut, totally different. There's no songs like "Rock The Show" "You're Beautiful", or "Brighter".

The first five songs really take off on the beach theme introduced in the debut, and incorporate them in worship tracks, rap tracks, and in fact, the whole album would play nice at the beach. "Heaven" is the first, and one of the best tracks off the album. The song is catchy, great musically, and a real winner for Mr. Wright. I don't quite get the meaning of "Come Around", but it's a fast paced song sure to keep you tapping your feet.

Tracks 5-7 are some unique tracks in that I've never heard anything like them before. "Resurrection" is by far the weirdest, with a just plain weird. It's hard to tell if it works, but it's not one of those songs that isn't going to make you feel rosy. I'm not saying it's a bad song, it's just very different. In this section is also a great hidden track, "Burrito Boy". Think it sounds rude? Well, if you eat at Taco Bell with any regularity, then you'll love the song.

The last three songs lean more to the style of the first few tracks, and "Surfah Girl" is easily one of the highlights of the album. "Thank You" is also a great worship song, improving from the worship song he did on the debut.

Overall, besides tracks 5-7, this album is pretty darn good. A little short, and a little weird in the middle, but Mr. Wright still knows how to make music. I just wish he could've had more songs with other types of music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just saw him at Freedomfest concert!!!!!!!!!, September 4, 2006

Wow! This guy came up on stage and I was prepared for an 'okay' singer. Wasn't very familiar with his music, had heard one song, his Surfah Girl song on the radio. I have to say I was very pleasantly surprised by his voice, music, and stage presence. He knows how to put you at ease, so you just want to raise your hand up and not miss a second of his smooth voice. He has funny lyrics too, he even sang a song about his flip flops! He has a heart for God, there is no doubt. Loved this guy and I am buying all of his cds. If you get a chance to see him in concert, don't miss it!!

4.0 out of 5 stars this guy's got potential, August 1, 2006
This review is from: Sunrise to Sunset (Audio CD)
I was, perhaps, slightly dissapointed in this CD. Although it's really not bad. I had heard that he was a little like Mat Kearney. Well, he's not as artistic. He's somewhat lacking in the lyrics department. But he's still got some fairly good stuff like, "Spirit Move" "Walking on Water" and a few others. I kind of think he needs to do his "folk hop" or "folk rap" a little differently. He's definitely not a rapper. But I think he could improve.
I will say this...this man has a heart for God. Praise God that we have talented singers like Paul Wright in this world.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stop reading and listen to this album (after you buy it!), October 1, 2005
This review is from: Sunrise to Sunset (Audio CD)
Great voice, great songs, great arrangement/production - Great Music. I won't waste words describing what has to be experienced. There are maybe 3-4 artists whose music really grabs my heart and not just my interest - add Paul Wright to that list. My ears love it - my "guts" love it - and my heart loves this man's music. Go see him play and buy his T-shirts!
