Amy McClure offers new avenues of thought on the subject of bringing the spirit from within the child through the pen to the paper; not only making budding poets of them but helping them at the same time to get their feelings out, showing them that they can indeed write beautifully. She uses fine literature always in her teaching, as well; exposing children to well written examples as they learn. I am not a teacher. I just happen to love writing and came across this book many years ago when I was looking for the how-to of poetry. I figured if these books could teach children, maybe they could offer me, an adult who wanted to learn more about writing poetry, how to approach it. I was impressed with her approach to bringing children to a love of poetry and writing it, and her love of the children as individuals in the process.
