Helen Schneider sings with just the right amount of warped emotion here in Llyod webber's best musical yet. Her final scene must rank amongst the best ever. She presents us with a woman utterly destroyed - her hysterical laughter as she descends the staircase highlighting the true nature of insanity with a terrifying intensity. She sobs and moans, cries and whimpers and then finally undergoes an amazing transformation into Salome and shrieks the final lines of the musical. The other performances are also exceptionally fine. Uwe Kruger sings with wit and anger, powerfully conveying his disgust with himself and the sordid situation he has inadvertently walked into. A wonderful translation which sounds all the more powerful in German.

... and then some!

This recording is - for want of a better word 'AWESOME' - A product superior in many ways to its English counterparts.

The magnificent HELEN SCHNEIDER brings even more shadings and Great Originality to tortured Norma Desmond. She seduces, comforts, entices, destroys and haunts you with her voice - would that we could have a video recording of this show! Now that would be quite something for the collector. This is one of the best sound recordings I have heard of the show [technically] and I do have all of the available current recordings [British premiere, Broadway and Canadian] - technically this dics cannot be flawed, it contains every nuance one might wish for, including a great final storm sequence!

A perfect translation too! "Dreams of light...."

Would be great to add the Elaine Page, Petula Clark and not forgetting underrated Betty Buckley's recordings to this collection should [and must] they become available.

BRAVO though to Miss Schneider for this superb jewel!

Andrew Lloyd Webber's hollywood masterpiece was translated into German to be staged near Frankfurt in a specially constructed theatre. Helen Schnieder, Germany's original Norma Desmond, shines throughout this exceptional recording, displaying emotion and talent. During translation, attention was paid to making the show even sharper and the lines wittier. This gives Uwe Kröger enormous scope to give a fine performance as Joe Gillis, and he delivers this with style. Highlights album.
