Editorial Reviews

The lives of six Hollywood hopefuls along L.A.'s famed Sunset Strip are forever changed during one momentous 24-hour period in August of 1972. If you loved "Almost Famous" and "Boogie Nights," don't miss "Sunset Strip" -- set against memorable '70s songs and unforgettably far-out fashions, it has "the makings of a cult favorite!" (The Hollywood Reporter)

Didn't care for this one at all. I lived on Doheny right off the Strip at this time and couldn't relate to any of these people. All the characters were unlikeable if not down right offensive. Granted there were people like this around but I avoided them and recommend you avoid this movie too. After twenty minutes I fast forwarded to the end.

Here's another film for Simon Baker fans from before he became famous for his TV series The Mentalist. The story was too gritty for my taste with everyone passing around STDs (thus only 3 stars) but Simon was great. Loved his hair styling for the part. I have maybe 17 of the approx. 20 films Simon has made and he creates a totally different character for each one. He's a truly talented actor. A couple of his movies had really crappy story lines that make me very happy to see that Simon finally hit it big and made lots of money with The Mentalist. He earned his success after having to work in crappy films to make a living. I would say that the film "Women in Trouble" had to be the worst. I had to throw the DVD away it was so awful, even though Simon played his part very well. "Ring 2" was also a piece of crap. Given what new actors have to put up with to get a role it's a wonder any of them stick with it.

This movie is a fun little romp through early 70's decadence on the strip in L.A. (think Almost Famous...but not as great as that movie). The movie follows all the rock stars, fledgling rockers and all the hangers-on through a 24 hour period. For some reason I like it. It's not a great movie but "if" you like early 70's rock n roll period pieces this might appeal to you.

Just as my 3-star rating suggests, it's OK. I read some reviews & it sounded horrible, but some friends suggested I watch it because Tommy Flanagan is in it & I love him. I'm glad I took their advice - it isn't a bad movie & it does have a good amount of one of my favorite actors in it, so it was a couple of hours that I don't regret.

Yes, it's just OK. It really has no point and most of the characters are unlikable. There is a terribly vile, cum-dumpster, disease vector woman in it that made me ill to look at by the end of the film. The whole film leaves you with a meh feeling. Interesting enough to watch but lacking in substance.

This movie was meaningful to me as I was a young person in the 70's and I could relate to the love I had for the music of that era. The acting was beautiful as I experienced real empathy for the characters with their aspirations and disappointments and broken dreams.

I rented this movie with the sole intention of seeing what Rory Cochrane's been up to since "Empire Records". Nice to know he's still playing the disaffected youth, only grown to full-blown sociopathic, self-destructive adulthood. I didn't think the movie was terrible in and of itself, hence two stars instead of one. I was amused by the costuming (I almost want to own all of Hot Lava's clothes), really liked some of the camera work, got a kick out of the soundtrack and loved the scene where Zack and the busboy start playing guitar. Still, the dialogue wasn't particularly inspired, for the life of me I couldn't figure out WHY Michael was in love with Tammy, the musician characters were entirely one-dimensional (though I do agree with whoever it was who said Jared Leto was the best actor in this lot) and was left hollow by the tidy little notecards at the end of the movie telling the outcome of everyone's lives. As for Felix...oh, Rory...I was so disappointed. This character could've been the muse/honesty barometer/fairy godfather, and there are hints of that side of him, i.e. when he takes it on himself to get Michael and Tammy together. Instead he just comes across as hostile and smelly, occasionally taking the time to randomly do things that might be construed as benevolent if done by someone who wasn't so clearly misanthropic. Perhaps the best way to watch this is as the appetizer for "Almost Famous". Just enough '70s flavor to get you going, but nowhere near enough to eclipse the real article.

I watched this movie because I am a fan of Tommy Flanagan and I enjoyed it. I didn't agree with some things that happened during the movie but overall it was good.
