3.0 out of 5 stars Still a page turner but very disappointed in the anti-climatic ending
This is the last (6th) book in the Warriors: The New Prophecy series by Erin Hunter. While this book tied up the series fairly well; I was a bit frustrated with how anti-climatic it was.

This book follows where the last book left off. The Thunder Clan, having driving out the badgers, are trying to rebuild their camp. A number of questions are answered as...

Wow, this book was wonderful! I spent the day reading it, and the ending was the best part. WARNING: MAJOR SPOILERS ARE CONTAINED IN THE REVIEW

Leafpool seems to have given up on Crowfeather. She has a new job to be part-time mentor of RiverClan's medicine cat apprentice

Brambleclaw has shown whose side he is on. He became deputy to Firestar, when Firestar realized Graystripe was dead(He isn't, but ah well, can't tell the cats that ;) ) He had a hunger for power during the whole book, but it didn't bother him at the end, where he had the choice to kill Firestar to be leader, but he doesn't, and kills his brother instead. Exciting! But the poor cat is left with horror at the end.

Cinderpelt in fact has not died, but has been "reincarnated" in one of Sorreltail's kits. Creepy, but nice, the wonderful cat is still alive!
I guess even the author that kills all the "cute cats" (if you read the innterview you'd understand) couldn't give her up for good. xD

Ashfur was horribly bitter about the Squirrelflight/Brambleclaw relationship. Which leads me to believe he was responsible for the treachury caused at the end of the book. Which is sad, cuzhe was cool in the 5th book.

From the sample chapter for "The Sight" at the end of the book. It refers that the "kin of the kin" is reffered to Squirrelflight and Brambleclaw's three kits, that they apparently had during the six month period betwen the book. (Their names are Hollypaw, Lionpaw, and Jaypaw) And they are apparently prophecied to have great power)

That's it, I guess. VERY GOOD BOOK! I reccomend reading it even if you saw all the main parts of this review.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better Than Expected, December 27, 2006
A Kid's Review
The sixth installment of Warriors: The New Prophecy #6: Sunset, was much better than I expected. Sunset included many different subplots and old charecters not brought up in Twighlight that completed the New Prophecy. Tigerstar was eager to get revenge on Firestar through his kits and was able to walk in their dreams to convince them power is everything. In the end, when Brambleclaw is given the chance to kill Firestar, he shows to waiting readers where his loyalties truly lie. As for Firestars kits, Squirrleflight makes her decision on the cat that she wishes would be her mate and Leafpaw deals with the troubles of her friend Mothwing and her new apprentice Willowpaw. The new series of Warriors, The Power Of Three, looks very good and I can't wait!

5.0 out of 5 stars the 6th NP book!!! by Wildfur, December 26, 2006
A Kid's Review
OMG!!! i heart it x100!

after the badger attack, leafpool decides to help mothwing mentor her apprentice willowpaw because mothwing doesnt believe in StarClan. later, spottedleaf shows leafpool a terrible secret about mothwing and hawkfrost, convincing leafpool that for sure hawkfrost cannot be trusted. meanwhile squirrelflight and brambleclaw rekindle their- er, relationship leaving ashfur incredibly bitter. also cloudtail spends tons of time with daisy and her kits, making brightheart sad and leafpool and brambleclaw get mad. o and one of sorreltail's kits looks exactly like cinderpelt! amazingg firestar also accepts that graystripe is dead and appoints brambleclaw as deputy! and at the very end, brambleclaw is given an opportunity (by tigerstar and hawkfrost) to kill firestar and become thunderclan's leader. so brambleclaw has to choose between loyalty and ambition, just like tigerstar, except tigerstar chose ambition. wat will brambleclaw choose? and the ominous prophecy "before there is peace, blood will spill blood, and the lake will run red" is fullfilled. its also sort of an abrupt ending, so.. we'll have to wait for the new series Power of Three! then we'll find out wat tigerstar's spirit does to brambleclaw and the destiny of brambleclaws and squirrelflights children jaypaw hollypaw and lionpaw

5.0 out of 5 stars Clans of cats! Really!, January 22, 2007
By
My daughters read this series of books without anyone having to ask them. When we get the latest edition, they argue about who gets to read it first. I actually saw them sitting next to each other reading the book together! How cool is that? If your child loves horses and cats, this is an excellent choice!

5.0 out of 5 stars An Improvement, December 27, 2006
We had a nice long break in between Twilight, the fifth book in this series, and Sunset, the sixth, the wonder what Cherith Baldry and Kate Cary were thinking when they wrote Twilight and hope that Sunset would be good resolution to this slowly but surely declining series. It was. It exceeded my expectations so greatly that for a while I thought I was reading some of the older, more brilliant Warriors books from the previous series.

Sunset begins with Brambleclaw and Leafpool's point of view, the same as Starlight and Midnight. The badger attack that ended Twilight has just come to an end, and Stormfur and Brook, two cats from the Tribe of Rushing Water, are left standing at the camp entrance. They are welcomed back into the Clan, more or less, as is Leafpool, who had left them back in Twilight to run away with her forbidden love, Crowfeather.

The break in Brambleclaw and Squirrelflight's relationship is repaired quickly (thankfully). Most cats seem to be back to the personalities we knew about before Twilight blew its moodswings in. Instead of badgers, the focus is finally on Tigerstar's rogue-born son Hawkfrost, who seems to be shaping up to be just like his father. If he continues on the way he is, Brambleclaw may have to choose between his kin and his Clan, a choice that he's made before in his life but suddenly seems much harder now.

Leafpool struggles with her own subplots- her friend Mothwing, the RiverClan medicine cat, has taken an apprentice yet does not believe in StarClan, so she can't teach her everything she needs to know. Leafpool has prophetic dreams almost daily (really, it starts to get annoying after a while), telling her of danger and strange paths ahead of her. She worries about her sister's relationship with Brambleclaw, who she can't help but struggle to trust. However, she seems to forget about Crowfeather a lot of the time- it doesn't seem like she's trying to forget the same cat that she lost everything for last book.

The end is quick and a bit rushed, but it's fitting for the New Prophecy series. Things tie together, but there are a whole mess of subplots that were either forgotten, or are to be resolved in the next book (there is a new series, titled The Power of Three, due to come out next). Sunset was very good, and it made it obvious that the New Prophecy series was just one book too long. Without Twilight, this series would have done a lot better.

5.0 out of 5 stars SpecNav Book Reviews- #1, February 2, 2007
A Kid's Review
I think a cat-lover would love this book, although it would also be good for the "talking animal" enthusiasts, and fiction fans. During the beginning Brambleclaw, the protagonist, is very jerky, but only because of the badger attack at the end of the prequel. He is constantly tempted to take control of his clan, but he is very loyal and trustworthy at all other times. The book is mesmerizing, although it is less action-packed that the prequels. I thought it had many non-physical confrontations though, and I could hardly stop reading.

P.S. SpecNav is a fan of the series!

I loved this book i love all of the warrior books though so i'm a bit biased. This novel summed up all of the plot lines that have been going through the new prophecys quite well and i'm anxious to read the next book in this incredible series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Ending to "The New Prophecy" Saga =D, January 7, 2007
A Kid's Review
"Before there is peace, blood will spill blood, and the lake will run red." Those are the ominous words of an unfulfilled prophecy that ThunderClan's medicine cat, Leafpool, received. But what does it mean? After the devastating badger attack on ThunderClan, Leafpool can't help but wonder if the prophecy means that something even worse is looming on the horizon. At the same time, the past continues to haunt the forest as old friends struggle to find their place, others appear to be lost forever, and an old enemy resurfaces in a quest for vengeance. A dark and sinister path is unraveling, and the time is near for certain warriors to make choices that determine not only their destiny, but the destiny of all the clans.

The book begins where the last book in the series left off; there had been a horrific badger attack on ThunderClan, plus old friends, Stormfur and Brook, arrived. The clans got along pretty well at the beginning, but then Shadowclan thought they'd take advantage of ThunderClan's weakness from the badger attack, so they tried to steal land. But their attempt did not succeed. Then Stormfur and Brook went to RiverClan, but came back soon after because of Hawkfrost. The medicine cat, Leafpool, heard Hawkfrost (Brambleclaw's brother) and his sister talking and learned Hawkfrost was trying to make his way up to the top, but in all the wrong ways. Leafpool also struggled to relay messages to her medicine cat friend, Mothwing, about how to save dying cats in her clan. Meanwhile, Brambleclaw and Hawkfrost had been taking lessons in their dreams from their father, to learn how to become leaders, though Brambleclaw was torn between his ambition and loyalty. Brambleclaw was soon made deputy of ThunderClan, and finally proved himself worthy by saving his leader rather than killing him to win authority.

This was an excellent read that was difficult to put down. Some of the reasons included well-written characters, exciting parts, and happiness.

Some of the well-written characters included Brambleclaw, Squirrelflight, and Leafpool. Brambleclaw was a well-written character because the author gave a great depiction of how he was torn between ambition and loyalty to his clan. Squirrelflight was a good character because she had a good personality; she is funny, loving, loyal, and caring. Another well-written character was Leafpool. She was struggling with her new medicine cat duties, a sinister prophecy hanging over her, and interpreting signs for her medicine cat friend who does not believe in StarClan. The author perfectly depicted her struggle without any "deus ex machina."

There were many exciting parts throughout Sunset. One time was when Leafpool overheard Hawkfrost talking to his sister, Mothwing. She found out that Hawkfrost was exactly like his father, the evil Tigerstar, because he was overambitious and willing to kill any cat or do anything to get what he wanted. Another exciting part of the story was the part where Brambleclaw spied on RiverClan. He watched in horror as his brother, Hawkfrost, managed to get Stormfur and Brook kicked out of the clan in order to cradle his own ambitions. That was exciting, but the most exciting part was when the leader of ThunderClan, Firestar, got caught in a fox trap right where Brambleclaw was meeting Hawkfrost. Hawkfrost was urging Brambleclaw to kill Firestar in order to become leader, but Brambleclaw didn't want to get power in that way. Their quarrel turned violent after Hawkfrost tried to kill Firestar himself. Knowing what he had to do; Brambleclaw killed Hawkfrost to save his leader, ultimately proving his loyalty to the clan.

This book included a lot of happiness. One happy part was when Squirrelflight and Brambleclaw became friends again, after a previous fallout. Another happy part was when Brambleclaw was made deputy unexpectedly, and the entire clan was happy for him. The biggest happy part, though, was when Brambleclaw finally did what was right and killed his over-ambitious half brother rather than killing Firestar. After that, the entire ThunderClan respected him, even those who doubted his loyalty.

Sunset was an excellent book and I'd recommend it to anyone who wants a good read, because of good characters, exciting parts, and happiness. Before reading this, however, it might be advisable to read the other books of the series, because Sunset jumps right into the storyline.

5.0 out of 5 stars the end of one prophecy and the beginning of another, January 2, 2007
Sunset, the final book in the New Prophecy series, brings old story arcs to an end and new mystery's that will be solved the next series, Power Of Three. after the devestating badger attack, Thunderclan is slowly reganing its strength whil Brambleclaw must deal with an inner conflict. his secret meetings with Tigerstar and his half brother Hawkfrost, threaten to be revealed and all along he tries to convince himself he would never turn like his father. but does evil truly run in Brambleclaws blood? will he become what he most hates? the spitting image of his father? meanwhile, as Leafpool must now take over as new medicine cat, she will learn shocking secrets, one that even concerns her mentor Cinderpelt. the first part of the series starts off a bit slow but really picks up as it progresses leading to a startling ending that will leave readers breathless. some readers may be dissapointed, as some arc story's in the series remain unsolved and new mystery's are introduced that will lead into the next series. but it is not to fret, because Sunset still gives readers a great time. now, all we can do is wait for the next series.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sunset, February 13, 2007

Ground Racer (In an English Class, TN) - See all my reviews
"Before there is peace, blood will spill blood, and the lake will run red." Thunderclan's medicine cat Leafpool received a warning from Starclan. As the clan slowly recovers from the badger attack, Leafpool wonders...do her dreams from Starclan mean worse danger than the badger attack?

In this series Firestar has mated with Sandstorm and has two daughters: Leafpool-Thunderclan's medicine cat, and Squirrelflight-a young and talented warrior. Squirrelflight was not sure about her love for Ashfur or Bambleclaw. Bambleclaw was Tigerstar's son; his resemblance makes others wonder if they can trust him. Bambleclaw is having secret meetings with Tigerstar in his dreams, and Hawkfrost is with him. They discuss how they can rule the forest; just Bambleclaw and Hawkfrost would be the leaders. Only first, they must become deputy.

Bambleclaw does not know what to do. He is tested with his loyalty to his clan, and his hunger for power that he inherited from his father. Also his love for Squirrelflight is stronger than ever. If she found out what he was going to do, planning, meeting with his half-brother and father, he is afraid she would never trust him, again.

In the end, he realizes what his purpose is and goes with it. The dreams helped him decide what is right, and what is wrong. Erin Hunter goes by the pen name Kate Cary and Cherith Baldry; they have sold more books than J.K. Rowling. I have enjoyed this series and cannot wait until the next series comes out! Even if you do not enjoy reading about cats, you will love these books. When you get into it, it's like they are not even cats but real people. This is a "must have book" for any young reader who adores fantasy, with "sitting at the edge of your seat" adventure. Add this book to your shelf, and you will not be disappointed.
