one of my favorites,

i first heard "all hail the heart breaker," and i had to find out who the band was. The spill canvas differs from the normal, often negatively portrayed, "emo scene" because of the sincerity of the lyrics and the talented guitar playing. While the cd can easily become a favorite of the dashboard and starting line crowd, it also will appeal to people who try to distance themselves from those bands. the tide, sunsets and carcrashes, and all hail the heartbreaker stand out. i'd also suggest buying this CD before the most recent release (one fell swoop); i wasn't as impressed with the new songs, even after multiple listens.

Emo at it's best,
This review is from: Sunsets & Car Crashes (Audio CD)
I'm not really too into the whole "emo" trend going on right now, but I will openly admit that this is a great album which every song gives off a very strong vibe. I am very surprised that this band hasn't gone big right now, but I have a feeling that they're going to explode really, really soon.
Every single song on the album is just so catchy. The lyrics are very creative and very quote worthy to say the least. It's amazing how far this band has gone, because it just started off with the vocalist and over time progressed into a full out band. If you want to check out a few songs, I'd reccomend "All Hail The Heartbreaker" and "The Tide".

Amazing...,

The Spill Canvas is awesome. All of the music on this cd is worth listening to...over and over again!Highlights: The Tide, All Hail the Heartbreaker, Bracelets, and the title track Sunsets and Car Crashes. Lyrically this band is probably the best out there. And musically it is truely a unique arrangement. Showing change within each song (an example of this is in All Hail the Heartbreaker; which starts out with a wonderful acoustic happy sounding part, then adds the rest of the band to a darker sound at the end). If you like bands like Dashboard Confessional, Bright Eyes, Copeland, Death Cab For Cutie and the like definately check out Spill Canvas!

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Sunsets & Car Crashes (Audio CD)
I purchased the Spill Canvas' most recent album right away when I preview listened to it at a Hot Topic clothing store. I was estatic when I heard that they had a CD beofore that and bought it right away from amazon.com I couldn't have been happier.
Track 3, the tide, is flawless. The best song of theirs to date and is worth buying the album just for this song. It is brilliantly emotional. The chorus has the best lyrics to a song I've heard in a time. Track 11 is another great one! If you liked thier second CD, do yourself a favor and pick up The Spill Canvas' first album, it's mainly accoustic but that's what makes it soo f'n great.

"You Can't Kill Heroes",
By J.B. Kline (North Carolina) - See all my reviews

With snippets of brilliance The Spill Canvas create a mediocre album with Sunsets & Car Crashes. Their songs don't have the knockout punch needed to create the lasting messege of great albums. But with the lack of a lasting accord, they are successful in producing 12 songs that scream of heartache. Each song is craftfully written and the lyrics should be listened to with attention. They write songs about circumstances most can identify with. I say cop the album if youre in one of those love drunken downs.

The band is amazing, as are their lyrics. Nick Thomas' voice is absolutely amazing, and the lyrics are just fantastic. The melodies just fit so perfectly. The songs are different, not so much of the usual music these days. Personally, I love the song 'Sunsets and Car Crashes', and do look the lyrics up. The album is fully unique, from an amazing (what once was) mainly undergroud band.

Absolutely amazing (solo CD),
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Sunsets & Car Crashes (Audio CD)
As if it already wasn't an exceptional album, to think that it is a solo album (Nick Thomas), just puts the icing on the cake. He has since added band members to make a permanent band, but it is amazing how this 19 year old wrote / recorded (did everything except drums) / produced this album. Unbelievable.
