3.0 out of 5 stars Installation is difficult . . .cheap, unusable fasteners make it worse, August 1, 2011

This review is from: Sunsetter Retractable Awning - Motorized Pro 15ft. (Coffee Stripe) (15' wide x 10' extension)
I installed a 12 ft motorized awning for my girlfriend a few weeks ago. The experience was so sub-par that I felt compelled to try to warn potential buyers about this product. These awnings are not suitable for "weekend do it yourself" installation. Plan on hiring a professional . . .with helpers. Also, make a pre-peremptory trip to the hardware store to buy backup nuts and bolts . . .those supplied with the awning are cheap, poorly machined and very prone to failing while being tightened. A full 25% of the bolts bound up and stripped threads on my installation.

In addition, I have now done some research and found that there are many complaints about motor failures, broken parts and poor customer service with Sunsetter products. Please do the research before spending your money . . .I am hoping that my girlfriend's purchase will work out better than those I have read about, as I know who she will be calling if there are problems. For now she is happy with her awning, although there were several screw ups in and around placing the order that caused long delays and frustrations. I suggest that you consult with your contractor/professional installer before ordering . . .and perhaps even have him/her make the call. The people at Sunsetter will be of little help with technical questions . . .and in my girlfriend's case didn't know the difference between a soffet and a rafter. If you are also confused about this, have someone else place your order for you.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor quality, failed in less than 1 year., December 11, 2011

Setting the motorized full down and full up positions took several attempts with carefully following their directions.
In less than 1 year, the operation became very erratic and then it failed to respond at all, leaving me with only a manual awning that took many dozens of cranks to open or close.
AVOID THIS MOTORIZED AWNING SINCE YOU WILL SHORTLY HAVE ONLY A MANUAL AWNING.
