4.0 out of 5 stars The last chapter of "Sunshine", February 20, 2011

This review is from: Sunshine Christmas (Paperback)
This book was released in connection with another "Sunshine" TV movie. Jill is now a school-age tomboy, single father Sam is still struggling to pay the bills and make it with his folk-rock band (better hurry up, Sam, new wave is right around the corner) and now his longtime on-again off-again lady friend, Nora, has decided to bail on the hippie lifestyle and marry a wealthy older man. Feeling rejected and depressed, Sam decides this is a good time for he and Jill to make a holiday visit to his old hometown in Texas and catch up with his family. Once there, Sam runs into an old girlfriend from high school whose life, like his own, seems to be at loose ends. This puts Sam in mind of settling down, only to have his bandmates and Nora (without her new husband) suddenly pop into town for a visit. What will Sam do? Unfortunately the ending is left a bit open - and you get the impression Sam is not quite over Nora and the whole folkie-rocky lifestyle - so there isn't any nice neat romantic ribbon tying up the whole package. I probably liked this the least of the "Sunshine" books because I really wanted to see Sam end up with Nora - who after all has a link back to the days of his late wife Kate - but if you are a completist or even just a fan of the "Sam and Jill" stories you'll want to read this one as well.
