Pop lite stuff,

In this, the second volume of Varese's compilation series of light pop tunes from the later 60's, is found an eclectic mix of monster-, modest- and non-hits. Nestled between such top-10 commonplace hits such as the Mamas and Papas' remake of the Shirelles' "Dedicated To The One I Love", Keith's medicinal "98.6" and the Monkees' "Daydream Believer" are some rarely-found tunes such as the Trade Winds' "Mind Excursion" and Ronny and the Daytonas' (of "Little GTO" notoriety) "Sandy" that took a back seat to these groups' more well-known charting singles. In among the five top-10 and seven top-100 charters found here are two sides that never dented the top-100 at all.Sound quality is very good with tracks 2,4-5,8-9,12 and 14 appearing in stereo with the remainder in original single-version mono. Rounding out the piece is an eight-page liner notes booklet providing background info on the included tracks along with production credits. For fans of the genre, this collection offers a nice mix of well- and lesser-known tunes exemplifing the more chipper side of late 60's pop.

This uptempo collection of songs doesn't contain any real new material that hasn't been recycled on other compilations. The difference is the mono single versions of some songs. In this compilation, DON'T YOU CARE; 98.6; YOUNGER GIRL are MONAURAL. You can easily find these songs elsewhere on other compilations in STEREO. Other than this little detail, the quality of the recordings is excellent. As with other CDs in this series of 5 CDs, there are some obscure titles from well-known artists. I wouldn't rate this set critical for any cd collection.
