Does NOT work unless stroller has pre-existing canopy/shade,

Our umbrella stroller does not have a canopy/shade, so I read some reviews and the product description and figured this would do the job. The canopy came in the mail a few days later. As soon as I opened it, I knew I was screwed. It is one of those pop-up shades that you can fold up into a circle to store. In other words, it is a flat, black oval. The outside of the package says "Use on buggies that don't have a canopy or extend existing canopy just by pulling it down." Then I read the directions and the VERY FIRST THING it says is "Your stroller must already have a sun shade (or top/roof) structure for this product work as designed. It works as an extension for current shades. It is not a replacement for those strollers without any shade protection to all."
Oh. So I tried to make it work anyway, but if there is nothing for it to anchor and conform to, it isn't going to happen. I'm sure it works great on a stroller with a shade, but I'm giving it 1 star for a poor product description. I hope this saves someone else the trouble.

This product works fine, at least when your stroller has a little canopy where the shade maker stretches over. It adjusts well, gives the extra shade, the original canopy does not, so it is fine. I did not rate it with five points for the following reasons. First, it is really hard to fold it again once it has popped up. Second the attaching strings are not thought-out well. There are four points to be tied with very short straps and two more with hook-and-loop fastener that i did not figure out how they are supposed to be attached... The good thing is, that you actually only need two ties to make it work.

So far, so good,
This review is from: Sunshine Kids Shade Maker Canopy For Strollers, Black (Baby Product)
I just bought a Graco Twin IPO stroller, and I needed the extra shade, but I didn't want to spend 55.00 on one shade. I bought 2 of these and they fit just fine side by side. I haven't had them in the sun yet, but I know they will keep a lot more sun off my girls than the shades it came with. They were cheaper too. It also helps keep them a little more separated, since from time to time my 14 month old likes to bug my 3 yo. Since we are going to Dollywood in about a month, I couldn't wait 6-8 weeks for these shades, so after a lot of searching, I found them at [...]. Everywhere else they were out of stock or backordered.

Why don't stroller manufactures make all sun shades this long!?,

We have the bugaboo chameleon, which we love, except the sun shade isn't long enough to shade our child's face most of the time, and if we pull the shade all the way down, she can't see. We tried getting her to wear a sun hat, but we all know how long kids keep hats on. We also tried hanging a light blanket over the edge and the wind just blew it off. I was so sick of flipping the sun shade back and forth on what were supposed to be leisurely strolls, that I went searching for an alternate. I put this sun shade on the minute it arrived and it worked like a charm! Easy to attach, adjustable, and SUPER light. The only negative is you can't fold it back when taking the child in and out, but it's easily bendable, so it's easy to just nudge it back with your shoulder. Plus, since it twist and folds in a snap, and it's so easy to take on and off, it's not really a huge negative in my mind. I can actually do long strolls without constantly having to check if the sun is blazing down on my child's face. Another plus is that it also fits on our light travel stroller, which is perfect for trips this summer. It has great side pockets for a light wallet, chap stick, keys or sunglasses. So great, because I don't have to go fishing around the stroller bag for small items anymore! It would also fit a cell phone, but because of reports about radiation and cell phones, I wouldn't suggest it. I keep my cell under the stroller in a bag and away from her brain. I find myself constantly asking why bugaboo doesn't just make their sun shade exactly like this one?!

Too Small to be Worthwhile,

I originally ordered the RayShade for my larger stroller, and I thought I could get by with just one because I could easily switch it from that to my compact stroller. Turns out I'd always forget to switch it, so my baby was left without shade. The RayShade is awesome, and can stretch to cover everything, including her feet. Since we live in Houston, pants/socks are not viable options in the summer, so a large stroller shade is necessary.
I ordered the Sunshine Kids Shade Maker because it was cheaper, and I thought, "How different can it be??" Well... 1. It is SMALL. Even on my tiny compact stroller (The First Years Jet), it doesn't provide more than a few inches of extra shade. It's no larger than the shade the stroller comes with. And your stroller MUST have a shade already for this to work (it provides the support). 2. It is actually hard to put on. I mean, you'd think it looks easy, but when I compare it to the RayShade, it's ridiculous. Where you are supposed to tie all the little straps is not intuitive at all. 3. Did I mention is provides little to no extra shade?? The only positive thing I have to say about the shade it that it looks like it's good quality and has pockets on the side. If you want a few extra pockets, then it's what you want. Otherwise spend the extra $5 and order the RayShade® UV Protective Stroller Shade Improves Sun Protection for Strollers, Joggers and Prams Black.

I bought this to go with the Heavenly Stroller (umbrella stroller for tall people)which had no shade canopy. It attached well and I was able to keep it on as I opened and closed the stroller. I was also able to close the canopy when it was not needed, simply by pulling the front on the shade back and over the top part of the stroller. The only con for me is that the shade is so high above my baby that she is often not protected from the sun. But it's still worth the protection it provides some of the time. If I'm going to be out in the sun a lot I always just make sure I put a hat on her as well.

This works great with our compact (Graco Mosaic) stroller. I can't imagine it not working with most all strollers. I wish I could have found this product sooner. I LOVE it!!! It does not hinder my little boy's view, yet shields him from the bright, hot sun. I don't know why strollers aren't made with larger shades to begin with...

Great to protect from the sun!,
This review is from: Sunshine Kids Shade Maker Canopy For Strollers, Black (Baby Product)
Love it! It fits over my Maclaren and can stretch to protect my daughter from the sun or give her privacy if she's napping. It wasn't difficult to attach and I just fold up the stroller, like normal. People ask where we got it all the time!(The Maclaren does come with a small canopy which makes it easy to push and hold the larger canopy back.)

I love this sunshade. It is very flexible and will fit pretty much anything because it has several options for attachment. It does not come with directions, but is easy enough to figure out. Other reviewers noted that it does not fold back to take out the baby. This is true, however we use the canopy with a Graco travel system stroller (Graco - Quattro Tour Travel System) which has an accordion-type canopy, so we use the stroller canopy to fold the additional sunshade as well. It works perfectly that way and we leave the additional shade on when we fold the stroller with no issues as well. We used it all weekend long as venders at an outdoor Arts Festival in bright sun, the original reason we purchased it, and have used it continuously ever since. It is so easy to adjust to keep our son completed protected at all times. We like this so much I've ordered another for my husband's stroller, so we never have to be without one. Great item at a great price. It has nice big pockets too which can come in handy.

I bought this thinking I could attach it to my cheapie umbrella stroller to give my son more protection on sunny days. My umbrella stroller only has a little, flimsy built in shade. The product description does not accurately tell you that you need to be able to put this over your existing shade, otherwise it won't stay up. My shade couldn't support it. Additionally, it came with NO INSTRUCTIONS! My husband and I spent 15 minutes trying to figure it out from the picture. We finally got it installed but I realized that it's not going to be convenient for me to install on a quick trip out when I'm by myself. In short, save your time and money, find another product, or just invest in a good sunscreen cream!
