4.0 out of 5 stars Works great!
It's too bad that the previous reviewer had such a negative experience. These work great for us! Maybe the clean windows on our new mini-van was a factor in successful installation?

3.0 out of 5 stars Good idea, but far from perfect
The shade is very dark which is excellent for good sun protection, but requires the driver to be excruciatingly careful with the blind spot checks. From the point of crash safety it is much safer than any roll up shade (which can detach in a crash and injure the child).

Bubbles were still a problem even though I read the previous reviews and followed their...

4.0 out of 5 stars Works great!, January 6, 2006

It's too bad that the previous reviewer had such a negative experience. These work great for us! Maybe the clean windows on our new mini-van was a factor in successful installation?

Pros:
1) Setup was super quick. I was even able to peel and reapply in order to reposition/straighten the shade. The shades have never fallen off or started peeling at the edges, though we've only had them up maybe 4+ months.
2) Fabulous at keeping out sunlight, better than the roller shades that suction to the windows because it actually shades or dims the light rather than diffusing the brightness through tiny holes like the suction kind.
3) Since they're static clings, we can put up 2 shades side-by-side in our mini-van and not have any gaps like we had when we had 2 suction roller shades next to each other.
4) We can actually roll down the window with these on, without wrinkling the shade (or worrying about suction cups popping off. Btw, one of our suction shades won't even stick to the window anymore). But we don't really roll down those windows, anyway, so I can't speak to its durability after frequent opening/closing.

Cons:
1) Can only think of one; as it is quite effective in keeping out light, it can be a bit dark to see out of, particularly at night, (or on gray, rainy days) and with a mini-van, I need to be extra careful about checking my blindspot. (Thus, 4 stars).

** EDIT/UPDATE **
After such a great experience with the first set, we purchased another set back in January. However, they didn't seem to have as much "cling", and didn't last 12 hours before they fell right off.

As suspected, it turns out that the cold Chicago weather was the culprit! After waiting for the weather to warm up, I'm happy to report success! My husband cleaned the windows (just as a precaution), and was able to re-install the shades despite the fact that they were practically crumpled on the floor of our mini-van for a number of weeks before we rolled them up again to store for the remainder of the winter.

LESSON: Don't install these in the dead of Chicago winter! Btw, we've never had any problems with the first set, even throughout the winter (they were installed in Aug/Sept). This second set is looking pretty good so far (it's been about a month).

** Update #2 **
Sep 2007: Since installing our first set 2 years ago, our 2nd set last summer, and our 3rd set a couple months ago (with the arrival of #3), we have not touched the shades since they went up and they are still working great. Perhaps a couple tiny bubbles here and there, but haven't had to do anything! (Still don't roll down the windows). If anything changes, I'll update, but they seem to be going strong.

Even though I have tinted windows, that late afternoon and early morning sun was beaming straight into my sons eyes. These are perfect. I followed the directions, kept the other reviewers comments in mind and even though there are a few bubbles, I really don't care.

The only tiny complaint I have is that NO WHERE on AMAZON in the product description does it say you are not supposed to roll your windows down; as it states in the product instructions. However, since they are pretty inexpensive if they come off I can buy new ones or just get limo tint on my SUV.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works well but does have its drawbacks, January 18, 2007
This review is from: Sunshine Kids Cool Shade For Car Window, Black (Baby Product)
I was so excited to try out this product. My son would always pull the roll up shades off the windows while I was driving, and they just didn't block out enough sun. These shades are pretty dark. So be extra careful when driving at night to look behind you. Before installing them on your windows make sure your car is cool inside and clean the windows really good with window cleaner. Have some patience. If your windows have any curve to them you'll have some bubbles to work out. But once they are on they stay put. I've had my shades for a few months now in my car and they have not peeled off yet. And my son doesn't pay any attention to them.

5.0 out of 5 stars cool shade, September 8, 2009

I got this product to keep the sun from hitting my face through the driver side window. I applied it to the top half of my window so it effectively eliminates the glare but still allows me to see the side mirror and traffic around me. It is easy to apply and sticks to the window very well though there is a slight roll up from opening and closing the window. I don't see this as a problem because I'm only keeping it up for the summer and I'll put up a new sheet next year. Great value.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good idea, but far from perfect, June 8, 2009

The shade is very dark which is excellent for good sun protection, but requires the driver to be excruciatingly careful with the blind spot checks. From the point of crash safety it is much safer than any roll up shade (which can detach in a crash and injure the child).

Bubbles were still a problem even though I read the previous reviews and followed their suggested best practices. I cleaned the window with alcohol, and tried to smooth out the shade with a piece of plastic (bank card), but the bubbles persisted and the material kept wrinkling in the process.

It's not a bad solution, and among what is available it is still my favorite, but there is much room for improvement.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best part is the window can still go up and down, September 12, 2009

Even though I can't get it on without those "bubbles" the fact that the window goes up and down with this shade on is exactly what I was looking for. It's very basic, affordable and does block the sun without too much compromising of visibility from the inside - I definitely recommend this product.

3.0 out of 5 stars Functional but cheap-looking, November 11, 2009

I bought this since it was the #1 selling car shades, but after installing, I had immediate regrets. It clings well if you clean your window. It works to block out the sun. However, it looks so cheap, both from the inside and outside! It is literally just a piece of static cling. And I spent forever trying to get it flat, without bubbles on the windows so it looks good. Once these shades die, I will not buy them again.

It is a great buy worthy of spending. I have them already over a year, and they are still there on the window providing cool shade for my little one. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to install - Perfect shade, July 26, 2009

My husband and I have been searching for just the right shade for both our sedan and station wagons. Other products with suction cups were either too "clunky" or did not stick to the window.

Pros: Reuseable, able to be repositioned, can still see out the window, functions like any other window tint product - you can see out but others cannot see in

Cons: May not fit the whole window, can lose stick in extremely cold weather

My son likes it because he can still look out the window. If it starts to "unpeel" all we have to do is reapply it which is easy enough. Even in extreme cold all you have to do is reapply the shade. Honestly - for the money and effort this is a great product.

It was easy to apply and I just wiped the window clean with a dry bib! There's some small bubbles but they don't affect visibility and there's no annoying graphics or logos and they can be easily cut the get the shape you need. Will buy more.
