Could be better...,

This review is from: Sunshine Kids Sure Steps Safety Strap, Blue (Baby Product)
I purchased this harness to use in the airport with my 16 month old. It has to be pulled over the head to put on and the straps have to be loosened in order to remove the harness and then retightened when put back on. On a small child the excess strap is quite long and I had to make sure to tuck the ends under the chest strap, the webbing is stiff and gets kinks from being folded so the excess ends did not lie flat but would spring up unless tucked in. The edges of the harness material were dipped in a kind of melted plastic (to keep the webbing from unravelling), the melted plastic was rough and sharp in places and would not be comfortable against the skin. I decided that there were too many steps involved to use on a 16 month old while managing luggage what with ajusting/readjusting the straps, on/off over the head, and securing the wayward strap ends, so I bought a backpack buddy instead. It has soft fabric covering the straps, buckles in front, only needs adjusting once, easy on/off, has a cute animal "backpack", and nobody gave me strange looks for having my child on a leash.

Awesome Product,

This product is amazing. It helped so much with my son. He hit his terrible twos early and the harness helped so much when going out of the house. We went on walks, went to the mall, and I even took it to the airport. It has really been a lifesaver. I really recommend this to anyone who has a kid that doesn't like being in the stroller and likes to roam around.

This harness was fastened with velcro which would not hold my three year old Grandson. It was off in under a minute.

My grandson is very active and will dart away before you can grab him. This strap keeps him close to me as we walk since he does not want to hold hands. I read in one other review prior to purchasing this particular model that the person felt the strap connected to the chest harness was not long enough but I purchased it anyway. I now agree that it would be helpful if it was somewhat longer. He starts to run and gets to the end of the strap quickly and stops abruptly, falling. It is a good product but really would be more beneficial if the strap would extend longer.

It's a great product to keep a very active child in check. The only drawback is that the velcro can partially come undone.,

My daughter just turned 2, and she loves to run. As soon as her feet touches the ground, she takes off. The harness comes in handy so that she can have a little freedom while I keep her close. The only problem is that if she tries to pull away with too much force, the velcro starts to come undone.

We had another harness for my son and the clasps broke so it wouldn't stay on. I saw this product, which while not the same does a similar thing, and I'm glad that we bought this one it's a lot more durable and the straps are longer so it fits more comfortably on him and he's not complaining about it.
I love that we can let him walk with us at the mall and out around town again without the risk of him running too far ahead or getting lost, or worse bolting out into the road and getting hit by a car. I highly recommend this item.

I have a 14 month old (about 22 lbs), and this product is great. I keep the leash somewhat taught and I use it to sort of steer him where I want him to go (otherwise he'd just walk aimlessly and in circles like an ant). It saves me the trouble of constantly bending down to grab him and turn him around. Some have complained that the kids will run and get jerked back when they reach the end of the leash... which I think is an unfair complaint considering that any and all baby leashes will do the same thing. You still have to chase your kid when they run. With a leash, you at least save your back from bending over constantly.
As for strap length, I think that this one has one of the longer straps I've seen. Some have complained that it's too short, but if it was longer I think that you'd run into the problem of having the kid get jerked back when they reached the end. Also, if it was any longer, I think that my kid would just get himself into trouble by running too far ahead or running around people and tripping them up. It's much cheaper and more durable than those velveteen, backpack type products. This product is made out of woven nylon like the straps you'd find on luggage. My wife thinks that it looks ugly, and she would prefer a backpack one. But for the price and the durability, this is fine by me. One downside is that the harness is a little stiff and my kid doesn't like putting it on... but then again, he doesn't like putting on t-shirts, jackets, socks, etc. so I don't think it's a problem with the harness. Once it's on, he totally forgets about it and just goes on his merry way. As for the velcro closure, I'm a bit surprised that some people say that it's ineffectual or dangerous. Maybe they didn't secure it well enough or something. For me it's strong enough that I could dangle my kid like a pinata if I wanted too (not that I would). Granted he only weighs 22 lbs, but still, it's not like a bigger child could just break free unless they actually undid the velcro. To put it on, you have to put the head through one opening, the left arm through another opening, and then secure it under the other arm. I don't think that a child could escape from that without at least a little bit of fussing and floundering. Oh yeah, I almost forgot. In case you run into one of those people who have a strong, negative opinion about putting leashes on kids, invite them over for a tall glass of shutthehellup. Trying to control a toddler in a busy public place is like trying to herd cats... or wild orangutans. It just doesn't work. To me, doing what's best for my kid means keeping them close and secure.

I used to be one of those people who would cringe when I saw somebody with their child on a leash like a pet, I swore I would never be one of 'those' parents.
Well...needless to say my mind was changed by a very active toddler who loves to run and doesn't like to listen. I got one of these to take with us on our road-trip so that at every rest stop when we got out to stretch our legs I could actually let my daughter run and get some exercise and burn off some energy without having to hold onto her or carry her. The harness allowed her some freedom but within limits and she learned very quickly how to walk with me while it was attached to her. It was super-easy to use and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who has to take an active toddler someplace where you know they're going to want to run but can't have total freedom.

I was worried because it was so much cheaper than similar products, but easy to use, secure and safe, and my children (4 & 2) love wearing them. Harnesses are tough, great quality, and we're very happy with our purchase.

I got this for my granson and he hates it, not because he doesnt want to wear it but because it's stiff and uncomfortable. I ended up just using the "cord" part around his hand or his belt loop. This seems to work fine.
We call it his "love handle" and tell him we love him and don't want him to get lost, he buys that, hook, line and sinker! |
