Sunshine: A Novel,
By Kim Nutter (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sunshine: A Novel (Hardcover)
I first read this book while in high school, shortly after it came out in print. Since then, I have read it an average of every 3-4 years. One copy wore out, and I purchased another. I laugh and cry every time I read it. It is my all-time favorite book, and I have read hundreds of books. Being a mother of 3, I cannot imagine what it must feel like to know you are dying, yet try to live life to the fullest for your child. I just hope that when my daughter is old enough to read Sunshine, she will enjoy it as much as I do. Also, could anyone please tell me where I can get a copy of the movie?

One of the most heart-wrenching books you'll ever read,
By
This review is from: Sunshine (Paperback)
A friend gave me this book when I was 16. I cried my eyes out.Since then I have read it a total of 6 times. It's one of those books you can just pick up anytime and have it relate to your life in a new and important way. The poetry that is randomly interspersed throughout the chapters is some of the most beautiful verses I've ever read. The story of her love for her child and her lover make me cry even just thinking about it. Please find this novel and read it - I believe it's out of print, but there's always used copies available somewhere. I always pass it along to friends who also love it. It's a great story and it's true!

BEST BOOK EVER,
By
This review is from: Sunshine: A Novel (An Avon Flare Book) (Paperback)
I read this when I was a teenager and it made me cry for hours, in the best way possible. Her love for her daughter is indescribable -and even though she chooses to not undergo treatment, you know she's doing it for the right reasons. She wants to be able to live her life without being held back by treatments that make her sick and make her angry - she wants her daughter to love her and remember her before she loses her.The poetry in the novel is beautiful. I have never found a book that can make me get so sentimental every time I read it. Please find this book and read it - and then pass it along to friends!!!!

Made a big impression,
By
This review is from: Sunshine: A Novel (An Avon Flare Book) (Paperback)
All I can say is that I read this book back in 1985 and twenty years later the story sticks with me. So much so that when I found out I was pregnant I started a journal for my kid. Not the usual "I felt you kick today" but a journal of how I feel about certain subjects, my interests, hobbies, things I wanted my child to know about me and about life in general. I wanted to do this because just in case something ever did happen to me before my child grew up, they would be able to know who their mother was. This thinking is a direct result of this book. And I can't thank Norma Klein enough for sharing a real-life story in such a wonderfully fictionalized way.

I, too, cried my eyes out and laughed my head off. I thought I was the only person who appreciated this book! I had an old copy from a library sale (which is now lost) and have the soundtrack on LP that my sister owned. I have never seen the movie, but would love to! This is a great story about loving big and letting go. If anyone has more information, please contact me!

I read this book when I was about 12 or 13 (about 20 years ago). I thought about it for years afterwards. One evening recently the book and it's haunting last line popped into my head. How I ever remembered the name of this book is beyond me. In any case, every female should read this book, particularly younger kids. Do girls today even read books like this anymore? Hope so...

This novel has a beautiful plot of a women forced to deal with the tragedy of cancer while juggling a daughter whom she loves and a lover Sam. She has to make the tough decision of continuing with the chemo and living a little bit longer, or going off the chemo and being there for her daughter in mind and spirit. Sunshine also has beautiful poetry by the main charcter for poetry lovers. I know I loved it and I think anyone would.
