What exactly would you expect from the Sunshine State but Sunshine Music? We the Kings don't disappoint. The Florida based band produces a strong effort on their third studio album "Sunshine State of Mind." Don't expect some New York angst here you ain't gettin it. Don't expect some introspective, deep, thought provoking lyrics here either. Unless riding across Alligator Alley with the top down isn't thought provoking enough for you? U snob! No, WTK is just fun. Passionate young love fun, lets hit the beach fun, Florida road trip fun. No excuses, no punches pulled, because none are thrown. Sunshine State of Mind is is rich, nicely layered power pop and great Summer listening. From the opening great track "Friday Is Forever", (also their new Video), you get the idea. These guys are out to have fun, fun, fun. A cross between The Rembrandts Greatest Hits - The Rembrandts, Jimmy Eat World Invented, Katrina and the Waves Katrina & The Waves - Greatest Hits: Walking on Sunshine, and a dash of Fountains of Wayne Sky Full of Holes and there you have it. We The Kings don't want you to get a headache thinking too deeply about this collection of songs. Just maybe a sore throat from singing along too loud. "Sleep with Me" and "Over You" are 2 other catchy, melody driven, hook laden, gems. My absolute favorite is "Somebody to Call My Own", great melody, very cool, no pretenses, no Hip-Hop posturing, crotch grabbing forced cool, just...oh hell, FUN.

I had never even heard of We the Kings before but happened to listen to one of their songs when this album was released. I was pleasantly surprised by the "listenability" of the songs. It's mostly upbeat, and I liked the album from the first time I listened to it. They remind me somewhat of Plain White T's. The album is a great deal for the price and will be in heavy rotation on my songlists this summer!

This is nice and fun pop. The raciest track is "Sleep with Me" but the tone is not what I think it sounds like (*the phrase). Good times.

I heard the first two albums by We The Kings, and knowing their music I had a sound already in my mind, after playing Sunshine State of Mind blew that sound away with a happy sunshine filled summer type album. I would recommend this highly to any WTK fan.
