This reissue CD includes songs from well back in Stewart's career and, while they are excellent, are not his very best, imho, from that time period. Still, there is typical Stewart power and poetry here (Haley's Comet is particularly well done). Listeners who like what they hear on this CD's samples (and, unfortunately, some tracks are a bit short on his voice and lyrics) will not go wrong buying the CD. I'd suggest they might also like the Phoenix Concerts (usually on every top-100 list) for some of his best early work, post-Kinstron Trio, and might check out Airstream Believer and Wires From the Bunker for more recent work. Stewart still tours and is well able to rock the house down, so catch him live if you can.

I have loved John Stewart since I heard "Cannons in the Rain" in 1974 (which I still consider his best studio album). He is in fine voice, and even finer songwriting fettle on this album.

This is great music - proto-Americana without much tinge of country. Call it folk-rock, with more accent on rock.

That said, there are a couple of minor problems on this reissue. First, there are occasional one-channel half-second sound dropouts in a couple of songs ("Lonesome John" and "Drive Again"). And there is no explanation why they rearranged the songs from the running order on the original album (although it seems to flow very well). The latter should only be a distraction to those who remember the original.
