Sunwing: A fantastic sequel to a fantastic book,
By Gilad barlev (Silver Spring, Maryland (USA)) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sunwing (Hardcover)
This is the story of Shade, a young silverwing bat. As in "Silverwing," nothing is as it seems. When he and his family and friends are trapped in a human-made paradise, everyone else seems content except for Shade, who questions the humans' motives. It is not long before hundreds bats start disappearing. Shade and his Brightwing friend Marina once again embark on a journey that takes them far south to the home of the Vampyrum Spectrum and the homeland of the evil batgod Cama Zotz. What follows is a non-stop adventure that will keep you reading through the night, but I'm not going to spoil the ending for you. You'll have to read it, yourself.

This book was terrific. A great buy! I got hooked toSilverwing, and was surprised/delighted to see in the back of thebook, an ad for the upcoming book, Sunwing. And I finished reading it just recently, and was totally amazed by this book. The twists and turns make the action unstopable! Read this book!

If you enjoyed the action in Silverwing you will not be able to put this one down. It picks up right where book one left off and is all action from the get-go. The whole story line gets a litte more crazy and hard to believe in this book and I didn't feel like I learned as much about bats (maybe because I had already read the first one) but I loved the book and stayed up late to get it finished.BTW, I am not afraid to admit that I am an adult, and not a "young-adult" anymore, both of these books are great and I recommend them to my adult friends as well as students. :)

"Sunwing" will change the way you think about bats.,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Sunwing (Aladdin Fantasy) (Paperback)
This incredible sequel to "Silverwing" details the exploits of Shade, a young Silverwing bat, and his friend Marina, a Brightwing. On their search for Shade's father, Cassiel, and the secret of the bands that Humans have been giving to some bats, they wind up in a fake forest created by the Humans. It is always warm as a summer night and alive with insects for the bats to eat, but most importantly, it is free of owls, the bats' most dangerous enemies. The other bats Shade has been traveling with are certain this place is a paradise. But Shade isn't so sure. So when he investigates, he discovers that the Humans are coming in while the bats are asleep and taking them to their laboratory. When Shade follows, he is captured and finds out the Humans are tying explosive metal discs to their bellies and dumping them out over the southern Human city to wage war on each other! Shade manages to remove his and his friend Chinook's explosive discs just in time, and they find refuge in Statue Haven, watched over by the mastiff bat Caliban.Meanwhile, Goth, Shade's nemesis, returns to the jungle pyramid home of his family, the Vampyrum Spectrum. The solar eclipse is coming soon, and Goth plans to use this time to liberate his god, the evil Cama Zotz, from the Underworld. If he manages to sacrifice one hundred lives to Zotz in the darkness of the eclipse, Zotz can rise, kill the sun, and reign over the earth for all of eternity. Since his father is to be one of the sacrifices, Shade soon realizes that stopping Zotz and saving Cassiel are connected. But even if the bats, owls, and rats all work together, can they defeat the giant Vampyrum and save the sun in time? You won't be able to put this high-action thriller down--it will keep you on the edge of your seat to the end. This one is definitely worth your money...and then some!

A Kid's Review

This book is about a bat named Shade who searches for his father and finds himself in a building where dangerous things are done to bats.Even when they escape there is still a lot of suspense because the cannibal bats, met previously have a plot to destroy them and the sun.The book is especially good if you have read the first.

Just as good as the first!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Sunwing (Aladdin Fantasy) (Paperback)
As soon as I knew Silverwing had a sequel, I ran out to buy it. Sunwing certainly did not fail to entertain me! There was just as much adventure and description as in the first one. Many times the sequel is not as good as the first but not in this case. If you liked Silverwing, then I highly recommend Sunwing. There are many new characters and the same ones, too, which are still very lovable. The ending is very satisfying! I suggest you read it (but not if you haven't read Silverwing!).

this book was awesome. All your fave characters are back, Shade, Marina, Goth, Freida, and many new ones arrive. Shade learns how to create many different things with his echo vision, falls in love(with you know who!) and Marina and Shade save the world. Read this book. It is AWESOME.

The Silverwing Saga books, are my all time favourites!,
By Jess-a-grr (Nova Scotia Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sunwing (Aladdin Fantasy) (Paperback)
I remember a few years ago that i purchased the book "silverwing" from my school's book order, not expectly that the book would turn out the way it was. It was so captivatng, i really am still wondering how Oppel can see through the eyes of a bat the way he does.Once I finished "silverwing" after not being able to put it down and vowing to buy "sunwing" right away...I didn't. These books seemed a lot more than just books, it was more like a life of Shade. About 3 years had passed when one day I saw "sunwing" at my school library...I grabbed it right away and was done it just as fast as Silverwing. It was just as captivating and answered all the un-answered questions from "silverwing". I've never really read a book from an author that writes the same way as Oppel, his writings are full of twists and turns that leaves you guessing and best of all reading to find out! Now if I can just get my hands on "firewing"... |
