What It What mang!...
I have to admit that I have never heard of or seen The Homie Jaz in my life, before listening to this album. What attracted me to the album was the album art, with a blue cadillac in the background. The Homie Jaz's shirt had an SJ on it, so I supposed it was San Jose. Now that is unique, because I have not heard of many rappers from San Jose previously. When I saw the tracklist, I saw a song called What It What featuring Mistah F.A.B. I immediately predicted that the song was gonna be on some The Bay slang.
I started listening to the album... What It What is the typical song you would expect from Mistah F.A.B. with the Bay slang, and a ruckus-causing beat. The topic of the song is the typical hyphy material. Skipping down to track #4... "Tattoos" is a unique song, with the chorus singing:
"Tattoos on my oarrms (arms), they mean something, the tattoos on your oooaarms they don't mean nothing".
The end of a song includes an interlude dissing gangstas who sport tattoos with Chinese characters. My Khakis is a great track. It has an early 90's feel to it, with Jaz talking about his khakis. (It is actually a throwback song from '94 that Jaz has included in his CD)The song has its comical moments too. The next song, titled 4X4, witnesses the Homie Jaz rapping about his sexcapades in Texas; he raps about meeting three bitches in a truck that had poles in it like a stripclub. (yeah right, keep dreaming, Jaz...) In "Summertyme", the listener gets to hear Jaz remaking the classic Fresh Prince and DJ Jazzy Jeff song into a smooth Westcoast-type track, where you can picture yourself riding to it on a summer night with the cool breeze blowing in your hair. The next song, "Soakin' Wet" has Jaz rapping about the redundant topic of sex again; he even tries an imitation of the Ying Yang Twins by whispering part of the chorus!
