I acquired this particular device to measure my exposure to noise. Unfortunately, despite the manual settings, it doesn't detect suddenly loud bursts of noise as would come from shooting firearms at a range. It is more useful for detecting general noise levels that have a more constant level. Unfortunately, I had to return it for my purposes.

The unit is lightweight and compact. The microphone/detector has a soft foam cover. The LEDA is clear and easy to read. The device can be set to run automatically or manually according to user preferences. There is a way to adjust levels of detection by decibel range, but sensitivity cannot be adjusted. The buttons are soft but are not as responsive as I would expect from a device at this price point.

This does well for music or constant noises like a drill.

This uses a 9 volt battery and battery life is quite good.

Unfortunately for me, it wasn't suitable for my uses. It would be great for musicians, technophiles who are setting their home stereos/surround sound systems, or a work environment where there is a high level of constant noise.
