Relay switches (also called an electrical relay or an electrical relay switch) use a small amount of power to control a larger source of power connected to electrical devices such as car motors, computers, and lighting installations. A basic relay switch has a control circuit with an electromagnetic coil and a load circuit with contacts and a lever. When current flows into the relay switch, it moves through the coil and a magnetic field is created, which causes the lever in the load circuit to move between contacts, either turning the device on or off. In a normally open (NO) relay switch, when power is supplied to the relay, the load circuit is closed and the power source connected to the relay is turned on. In a normally closed (NC) relay switch, when power is supplied to the relay, the load circuit is open and the power source connected to the relay is turned off. In other types of relay switches, non-moving parts such as transistors or semiconductors can be used as the control circuit to operate the switching mechanism. Relay switches can be controlled with an external switch, such as a light switch, or they can be connected to an automatically switched power source, such as a car ignition. One relay can operate multiple switches, and multiple relays can be operated with a single switch, with each relay operating independently from the other relays in the system.

Supco manufactures test instruments and replacement parts for heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems. The company, founded in 1945, is headquartered in Allenwood, NJ.

I'm using the relay with my humidifier and NEST thermostat setup. Works great.... There is no buzzing like other comments.

I did put some heat shrink on the second set of contacts.....

It's a relay. Works just as described.

Coil runs off 24VAC for use in HVAC systems. I used this to wire my Humidifier to my Nest. Was easier to wire it to switch my 120v lines on the HUM transformer.

There is a standard terminal hole in my HVAC that mounts the HUM transformer 24v lines outside with both 120v lines inside. So I attached the white to an open neutral line on the HVAC control board. The black went to the Normally Open terminal on the relay. Relay Common ties to the 120v line in the HVAC. The relay coil attaches one side to the HVAC 24v common and the other is coming from the nest thermostat wire attached to *.

Relay terminals:
1=24v Common
2=HUM transformer 120v hot(black)
3=Nest wire connected to *
4=HVAC 120v hot(black)

Note: Mine came with no blade for terminal 6. Though terminal 4 & 6 are tied together internally. Also the schematic looked different on mine confusing me for a few minutes.

Worked like a champ for my nest with humidifier setup. I had to route via my humidistat, I thought I could bypass that panel but I was wrong. This was a great value and works good.

Like other reviews, this unit buzzes loudly when in operation. The unit failed after less than 24 hours in service on my furnace. Don't waist your time or money on this product.

The fan relay in my air handler went out. Being a recently relocated HVAC tech, I couldn't find any parts houses near my new home and I am not currently employed, so I couldn't borrow one from my boss...so I came on Amazon. I was amazed to see this part as prime eligible...it was getting hot and two day shipping was great.

This relay works with a majority (not ALL) air handlers w/ electric heat, utilizing a relay instead of a control board. The normally closed contacts are for whats called a "fan-interlock". This is wired to the heat strips so that when they engage, the blower fan engages if the fan relay fails to switch the normally open contacts closed. A big safety factor and very important when buying a replacement fan relay. If the fan fails to engage when the heat strips come on, you have a big fire hazard - granted, most systems are equipped with high-limit switches now-a-days, but its good to be doubly safe.

If you are unsure what you need, save yourself from possible property damage or loss of life - call a HVAC tech.

I ordered the 90380 to replace a discontinued part on an old Carrier heat pump. It has been working great ever since I installed it. And installation was a breeze thanks to all of the mounting holes on the bracket.

I used this relay to replace a defective solid state control board in my Electrolux central vacuum. It was received promptly and is working perfectly!
The price jumped later in the day but I see that happening a lot now. I was going to order another one at that price for stock, but price got jacked right after I ordered it. (still reasonable price).
