The valve works great and the reason I purchased this item was to change over from the cheap push on plastic type connection to the refrig. The push on type hose became defective and cause several thousand dollars worth of damage. The solenoid allowed me to go to a 3/8" hose connection. The 3/8" hose also comes with an automatic shutoff.

Pro: good compression connection for tubings, though plastic but comes with brass inserts. No connection leakage on fittings.
Internal parts are removable for service.
It is supposed to be "universal" for dual, i.e. ice maker and water dispenser. You may need to adjust brackets to fit which is my case for my whirlpool. It comes with extra short pieces of tubing for reaching if needed.
Compression fittings are better than push on connections to prevent fitting leaks, but more time to install.

Con: in my case, the solenoid valve (internal seal) does not hold, resulting slow dripping from water dispenser, although the solenoid coil resistance is the same as OEM in ohms and internal seal looks good.
But the fact is that it leaks.

I had to returned it (paying ~$7 return shipping). The seller claimed the item "can not accept it back at this time. It was returned in a condition outside the original." After I pointing out that defective fact the solenoid internal leaking, Amazon eventually refunded me but not the return shipping cost.
I could not tell the ice maker solenoid leaks or not. I should have taken notice of 1-star reviews of the item, but too late. My advice is to get the oem one and save you the potential trouble.

We have an old Kenmore refrigerator. The original water/icemaker solenoid valve lasted many years, then one day sprung a leak--water sprayed out of the valve itself. It was easy to replace with one of these. However, after about a year, the new valve did not close after filling a glass with water. Because someone was present to turn off the water supply, little damage was done. It was replaced with this one in Nov 2014. On 18 Feb 2015, water began to pour out of the freezer compartment, where the icemaker is. Fortunately, someone was standing in the kitchen, but several gallons of water leaked out before the supply could be shut off. So, two of these valves failed in the same way--open, spraying water. I took them apart (I had saved the old valve in my junk box) and discovered that rubber washers inside had fallen off the pegs which hold them onto plastic discs which are activated by the solenoids. (The washers have center holes.) Both washers were deformed. This valve seems poorly designed and constructed, and it was just dumb luck that someone was present both times they failed, preventing major flooding.

Don't waste your time and money on this cheap alternative. I, like another reviewer, experienced the horror of finding water dispensing itself all over my kitchen floor 4 days after installing this valve. The valve was stuck in the open position, allowing water to flow freely out of the refrigerator door dispenser. Had this not been caught quickly after it started happening, there would have been major flood damage to my kitchen.

What if the problem had occurred while we weren't home?

Supco is just asking for a lawsuit by producing a unit that fails in such spectacular fashion.

I installed this valve myself, a very easy task. After 2 day the water dispensing side valve broke and caused the water to stay on and flooded the kitchen. Don't try to save money with this knock-off brand. Buy original equipment.

Item appeared exactly as in photo. Many extra parts included to ensure hook up was possible. For somebody with no experience in something like this I was able to replace the part with a little youtube guidance. The pressure bolts are a little less convenient than the original press and release hook ups on my original model but no complaints as far as how it functions. One small issue was that our water filter line is neither 5/16 or 1/4 but that was easily solved with an extra connecter from the hardware store (the part does contain a 1/4 to 5/16 converter, since apparently most filter lines are 5/16 and the valve allows hook up for 1/4 at that input).

Ordered this to hopefully fix my ice maker problem since many suggested that this is the first thing to check. Unfortunately it was not what was wrong with my ice maker (to no fault of this product). Can verify this product works correctly because it also supplies the water dispenser in the fridge which functioned perfectly after replacement.
