This is a wonderful tape. Callanetics is one type of exercise that will produce remarkable changes in your body is a very short amount of time. I prefer this tape to the regular Callanetics video program, because the regular Callentics tape leaves out a few exercises that are in the one hour program from Callan Pickney's book, "Callanetics: Ten years younger in 10 Hours". Even tho the Super Callanetics tape is quite advanced, it is no problem at all to fast-foward thru the exercises that you are not ready for and only do the ones that you are strong enough to do.The video is a little dated when it comes to dress/make-up, etc., but the production is good and easy to follow. The exercises themselves are very unique: core exercises that focus on building strength thru tiny, gentle movements in the area you are working. Relaxing new-age music plays in the background as you exercise, but is never annoying. About a half-hour at the beginning of the tape is Callan herself demonstrating the exercises on the tape. The rest of the tape is the workout itself, which takes about an hour and 10 mn to complete if you do the entire thing. I would highly recommend purchasing this video over the regular program along with the book aforementioned, and working your way up. The production quality is better than the original video and the workout more closely follows the one laid out for you in Callan's book.

Forget Pilates, Callanetics is the best.........PERIOD!!!,

I started doing callentics when I was 16 with my moms book. I have scoliosis and it has never botherd my back. Then I bought the tapes and loved it even more! Super callanetics is my favorite because it includes more of the excersizes that are found in the book and you get faster results. Just watching the tape would fool you, youd never guesse how sore these movements make you or what kind of results you will get. I have done yoga and the series of pilates tapes from "the method" and to be honest they dont even come close. I did the method tapes for 2 years and never saw the results that I get from 2 weeks of callanetics! Youll still want to do some form of cardio to burn fat, but you will get smaller and trimmer if you do this alone. If you want to reshape your body and increase your flexibility then callanetics is the workout for you. You wont be dissapointed.

I am a true Callanetics believer, and I started out with the original hour-long program, singing its praises the whole way through. It effectively tightened my muscles and, being a girl who thought my rear end would ALWAYS be flat, lifted me in places I NEVER thought possible. Who needs plastic surgery?Well, I recently stepped it up with Super Callanetics, and it feels like the first day I started the original program. Sore all over! This new program features Callan and only 4 or 5 students, usually only seen 2 at a time. These are her "expert" students, and they demonstrate each exercise perfectly. It makes you miss the "class" format of the first tape, simply because these expert students make you feel like you're not doing the exercises hard enough, long enough, or far enough. But, it's good motivation to work harder. Unfortunately, Callan doesn't participate as she does in the original tape (she just provides commentary and praise), but her students do a fine job. The program itself is an expansion of the original, introducing new exercises and doubling the reps on some of the old ones (i.e., 20 plies rather than 10, 20 pelvic rotations in each direction, 200 counts for the inner thigh squeeze....torture!!!). The new exercises I find somewhat awkward, but it may just be because they're new to me. There are a couple new ab exercises that will guarantee wear you out, and by the time you get to hip and buttock exercise #5 (yes, I know there are only 2 in the original), your legs are shaking. Essentially, if you are proficient in the original program, you will still feel like a novice for this program. It is quite challenging, and I look forward to actually finishing the whole thing...I've never had to take so many breaks in my life! :) Note: The first half hour is instructional, as Callan and her students demonstrate each of the exercises briefly before going through the entire workout completely. Be sure to watch this first, because the workout goes from one exercise to another without time for explanations. Also, followers of the original Callanetics program will be thankful for the faster counter at the top of the screen....counts of 100 go by much more quickly in Super Callanetics.

I've been doing Callanetics on and off for over 10 years, and I still am excited and amazed by the near-instant results, which are especially obvious if you are already in decent shape. and you better be in decent shape to do this tape, especially your abs. Super Callanetics moves along at a much more efficient clip than the one-hour program, and I find it more useful to observe her advanced students perform the excercises with expert form than watch the beginners in the first tape. Callan's half-hour demo in the beginning is an excellent refresher course, but is easily skipped. (These workouts need to be on DVD!!) I have to stress though that it is CRUCIAL that you learn to do these excercises correctly. It takes a few tries for your body to "get it," but with practice, your control will switch exclusively to the small muscle groups you are working, and you will be able to truly relax the rest of your body, which is key. If your back hurts, you are doing too much or doing it wrong.Sometimes its hard stay consistant with Callanetics because it targets like a laser the exact muscles that want to avoid working, and is relentless with its little "pulses." But guess what, that is why it works so well, it gets at those muscle layers that pull in to give your body that smooth, tight, lifted quality. Include this tape into your workout schedule with some of your other favorite routines once or twice a week, and you will find that your aesthetic objectives are achieved in days instead of weeks. No kidding, you can see the difference after the first workout.

I have done every kind of workout for years and this is the only one that truly sculps the body. I am now 50 and have not done these tapes for about 5 years, but am going to go back to them knowing that they will work. The other great thing about this workout is that it is gentle and includes the most stretching of any video I have ever tried. If you did this into your 80's, you would still be in great shape!! I am surprised that the whole world hasn't caught on to this!!

I have been doing Callanetics for over 10 years. This is a routine that does exactly what it says it will do. It shapes your body beautifully. Really hard to believe. I am 68 years old now and am still exercising with this tape or Callanetics AM PM three times each week. On the week-ends I jog for heart and lungs, but nothing shapes your body like Callanetics. So much you buy doesn't live up to its promises, but this tape does.

Please try to get past the bad hairdos and the music. This is truly a great tape. I admit it is sometimes hard to fit her one hour and 15 minute workout into my schedule, BUT, (1) you can actually break it down into chunks of say 30 minutes + 45 minutes. (2) you only need to do 1-2 hours a week (3) after you've achieved the figure you want, you can do her maintenance program.I would highly recommend that you read her book "Callanetics, 10 years younger in 10 hours" in conjunction with the tape. First, you will have a more detailed description of the excercises. Second, the Beginners, the Advanced, and the 15-minute program is described, so even if you buy the Advanced Callanetics video, you will see the little variations in the excercises for beginners. Third, you will understand more why certain features of the excercises are very important (you must try to extend your arms during the situps to open up your back muscles! try not to keep them next to your ears!) HOWEVER, I still strongly urge you to buy the tape as well, because it motivates you and gives you the counts, and because illustrations don't always show you everthing! To the 32 years old former gymnast/dancer...of course it is difficult to raise your leg 100 times while holding an ackward position. Had you REALLY listened to her, you would have done ONLY what you are able to do. I started off by barely being able to lift my leg off the ground (during the hip and behind excercises), and now, (maybe after 15 hours), I am able to complete the 100 counts. I can't wait to get even more control over my body!

I have done this workout on and off for many years. I alternate it with another great workout based on the same principal. (chicometrics) It never ceases to amazed me at how effective it is!!!slow, controlled, relaxing and each time as difficult and effective as the first. Although the tape looks hokey now, it is very relaxing and above all...yes you do see and feel results the very first time that you do it, or for that matter any of the Callanetics workouts. You will get lean, rock hard muscles in your legs and buns and abs. This tape is difficult. It is truly advanced. So if you have never done Callanetics before it would be a good idea to try the beginner or regular version. Callanetics does not provide much for the upper body but what it does for the rest is almost unbelievable. I can never understand why it has not become more popluar since it is one of the few workouts out there that really deliver what they promise. And more! As a nice bonus your posture will improve, you will notice a difference in your neck and face and you only have to do it once or twice a week!

I've been using Winsor Pilates, Jennifer Kries's Method Precision Toning and Method Precision Sculpting and Super Callanetics for the past 5 months. I went gradually from using Callanetics only once or twice per week to using it every other day because you just can't beat the results! The tape is so outdated in its style (hairdos, music, etc.) that I find it funny and even annoying because I watch it so much, but I keep on coming back to it because the results are SOOOOOO pronounced. You'll feel it right away, and if you keep doing it, it only gets better. I still find this video incredibly challenging. I can't do some of the exercises yet, and have to do fewer repetitions of others. And even then I can't believe the changes in my body. I've lost 3 inches from my waist (29 to 26 inches) and 4 inches from my hips (40 to 36), and my muscles are rock hard. In addition, I've always had really wide ribs, and now they taper down to my waist, making me look a lot slimmer. I don't do any aerobic exercise, but I can only imagine the results of the combination once I start!If you need a high energy music, ultra peppy motivational video that goes by fast and doesn't seem strenuous, then this is not for you. But no matter how cheesy the music or the leotard styles, I'll keep using this for years to come because I've never found anything that beats it. I just wish they'd come out with a CHAPTERED DVD.... |
