5.0 out of 5 stars Move over, Bridget Jones!
Half way through this book, as I read it on an elevator on my way to an appointment, a stranger actually said, as the doors parted: "what is that you're reading that makes you laugh so much?"

2.0 out of 5 stars Not as good
I was hoping that the main character would be more grown-up and self-reliant than she turned out to be. she's like a lost spoiled child swept away by her self-centered fantasies. i read somewhere that this book has a touch of feminism but let's stop right there- she's constantly obsessing about finding the love of her life, she's passive and quite boring actually.if it...

Now that doesn't happen every day.

But Super in the City is just the kind of laugh out loud story which will leave you with a bit of grief when it finally ends. The self-obsessed but never dull Zephyr was a ton of fun to follow around for a few hundred pages. And I'll never look at the floor of my closet the same way again.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hot Town, Super in the City, January 27, 2009

Setting the main constraints of the genre itself aside, this book was quite good. In fact, I just plain old liked it! The book is the simple, friendly little tale of an extremely likable woman with the fantastic name of Zephyr Zuckerman. She merrily skips through the novel, going through a range of emotions and catastrophic situations before finally getting her perfect, rainbow over Manhattan happy ending. It's great.

Most simply, this book was a nice little moment of escapism and one that is not so far-fetched as to really hurt you when you come crashing back down from chick lit land. Ms. Uviller's writing style is utterly fantastic: intelligent without seeming pretentious, funny without hitting you over the head with the punchline and wonderfully real-feeling, even in its moments of greatest unreality. Zephyr honestly comes to life, as do the people she encounters along the way.

I loved this book. The story was funny, sassy and smart. This is chick lit with some depth to it. I can't wait for more from this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars Polished Chick Lit, October 6, 2009

Zephyr Zuckerman, at loss for her career interests (she packs a van for graduate school but can't quite manage to go), takes over the superintendent role in her parents' New York City brownstone. And adventure begins! In the course of finding out who she wants to be when she grows up, Zephyr chances upon a mystery as well as the mysterious (and handsome) Gregory, purportedly the exterminator for her parents' building. But who is Gregory really and what will happen between him and Zephyr? This well-paced and hilarious book, spiced with just the right touch of romance and sex, is engaging from the first page. A skilled writer, Uviller has a gift for dialogue, whether the conversation is between the heroine and her "sexterminator" or between Zephyr and her gal pals, the Sterling Girls. A great read that burnishes chick lit with admirable writing.

Soooo good! Picked it up on a Friday night, and didn't put it down until I finished it around noon the next day. The story just sucks you in, and the characters are wonderful! Ms. Uviller is an excellent writer; her descriptions are so detailed and nuanced they make you feel as if you are there in the moment. I hope her next book comes out soon!

4.0 out of 5 stars I look forward to reading this author again!, April 19, 2009
This review is from: Super in the City (Paperback)
Over qualified Zephyr Zuckerman finds herself as superintendent of her parent's Greenwich Village brownstone after the first super is led away in handcuffs. Since she's unemployed she daringly takes on the job, digging into not only the job itself but the secrets of the building and its tenants. Now she's not only the super but a sleuth as well with a mysterious side kick exterminator Gregory Sampson. Things only get more confusing when her sleuthing leads the mob to think she's in the FBI and the FBI to think she's with the mob. How did something so simple turn so strange?

This is without a doubt one of the most entertaining chick-lit titles I've read in a long while. Zephyr, her friends and the quirky situations she finds herself in are well written. Sharp and witty are two very strong adjectives to describe this author's ability to tell a story. If you're looking for an entertaining read, look no further.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hysterical, February 24, 2009

This book is hysterical. Not much makes me laugh out loud - but this did. My laughter even prompted my husband to pick it up. Reading Zephyr's stream of consciousness lets us laugh at our own neuroses and remember a time when we thought the same way. I loved it! Nice also to read a good, intelligent writer. Can't wait to read Uviller's next book!

5.0 out of 5 stars funny, entertaining and thought provoking, February 16, 2009

This book is way more than your usual chicklit. It is funny, entertaining and thought provoking. The main character, intelligent and well educated represents a large number of young adults who haven't quite found their way as yet. Parents of 20 somethings take note. You will enjoy this book too. I loved the lofty musings of glory and fame that Zephyr, Uviller's main character is frequently fantasizing and the unexpected twists and turns.
