5.0 out of 5 stars classic compilation
With relatively few French artists following the international success of Etienne de Crecy and Alex Gopher, it seems "Super Discount" will remain a stand-alone classic. 3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting but still
Interesting cuts, most tracks are remix by Etienne de Crecy, Alex Gopher. If you are interested in collecting all great things french.....buy it. If you are interested in all great things from Etienne & Alex.........buy it.

I've you are looking for great house, move on, if you are into acid-jazz, you might enjoy it.

C'est ca.

5.0 out of 5 stars classic compilation, July 30, 2000

With relatively few French artists following the international success of Etienne de Crecy and Alex Gopher, it seems "Super Discount" will remain a stand-alone classic. Released in '97, the album was instantly a standard bearer for the times, and was such a class act it was regularly named one of the top - if not *the* top - compilations of the year by all the dance mags. Just one listen to de Crecy's "Prix Choc" (he also mixed and produced the album) will convince you that he - along with Daft Punk - reinvented house music. If you like your music funky and soulful this album is essential.

5.0 out of 5 stars Please don't believe the previous reviewer..., March 24, 2000

I felt I should make a contribution in order to up the average rating of this record. This record is absolutely sublime, transcendently cool, jazz-inflected house, perfectly mixed and produced with amazing subtlety, and basically all-round wonderful. Please don't believe the last reviewer: he or she has been listening to too many Prodigy records.

5.0 out of 5 stars The coolest House Music sampler ever released!, June 2, 2000

Now listen !

This is by big margin the most interesting mixture of jazzy/seventies-black house/dance music ever released since this music style called HOUSE was created - there is very little one can say - guitars sounding like being recorded next to a campfire and then, pumping bass lines tune in and change the athmosphere within a split second - this music is athmospheric and not at all clinical, it is warm, getting warmer and at the end it sweats - just grab this record!

5.0 out of 5 stars the strong, severe shadows of house francais, October 27, 1998
This review is from: Super Discount (Audio CD)
I am really falling in love with the erie, ominous, funky French house music. Etiene de Crecy truely gives the four-four beat so much sophisticated flavor, while maintaining a very French version of the word "phoenk". And he never over does it. This is along the lines of Motorbass (de Crecy makes up one half of that group) and Daft Punk (another French house act). Very similar to a lot that you might find on Plastic City, a label which puts out very strong, dark euro-soul house musique. Good job de Crecy; I hope to hear more stuff like this.

Well, "Vive la France". This eclectic techno-funk compilation is profoundly sure to spawn at least a couple late night classics with its funk flare. I'm pleased to say we are actually hearing the rebirth the groove, circa 1978. Whether you're into something trance like, trip-hop or just plain sophisticated groove-jazz this compilation will take you on journey through the most elegant and stylish hotel lounge experience. Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars A fantastic sampler, July 31, 2000

Don't listen to what has been told by in the only negative review this record had here in AMZ (it was written by an English and they usually don't like whatever come from Europe or US..even if it's really good). SuperDiscount has already deserved its place as one of the best compilations about the new French sound, and you can listen to it in the trendiest clubs of the planet from Ibiza to NYC, from Tokio to Milan. The best track, imho, is Etienne De Crecy's one but all are funny and it's impossible not to dance at....

1.0 out of 5 stars quite possibly the worst peice of house in my collection, May 11, 2004

quite possibly the worst peice of house in my collection - an unispired collection of french house easily eclipsed by any other "various artists" u care to mention. boring, repetitive. no usable beats, and at times completely unmixable.

I wouldn't reccomend it to anyone dj or other.

etienne, bob sinclar at their worst.

buy "my house in montramiane" or "discoteca" youll be better off.
