One of my favorite arcade game back in 80s was Ghost and Goblin, the very first installment of the series. I still remember pouring in countless coins to play that well-made game... And believe it or not, I'm playing this third installment on GameBoyAdvance.. I have nothing to complain here.

Super Ghouls N Ghosts is the remake of Super Nintendo Version of Ghost and Goblin series, where they implemented this infamous double jump. This game is about timing, your ability to deal with the situation quickly, jumping with your instinct.. And this this double jump, it added much more possibilities, much more moves you can pull out in the game. They transported this sequel faithfully from Super Nintendo and I had to finish it in couple days. I had to finish it in couple days because not only I was in for nostalgic mood but also severely addicted to it. I've been playing games for latest systems yet finding myself putting down controller so easily due to games' lack of genuine game play.. yet this game is so addictive that I had to finish it in couple days.. It really shows what genuine 'gameplay' of a game can pull out time after time.

You play this game and you tell me- Beautifully drawn graphic, more-than-perfect-atmosphere-creating music, intuitive, intuitive control, and challenging game play which still shines after all these years.
I happened to have compilation disc for import Sega Saturn, which contains original Ghost N Goblin, Ghost N Goblin 2, and this SNES version. And trust me, being able to play this third installment before bed time, during break, while walking, it's just priceless-
They have included the original version with rearranged version. Original version does faithfully play like original version. Moreover, rearranged version included this never-been-played-before levels, which is partially from previous Ghost N Goblin series. That's right, they've included more stages from other installment.

I have no choice but to give 5 Stars for Super Ghouls N Ghosts because I'm truly grateful for being able to play this very game on GBA. Of course, this game does provide you with challenging gameplay because that's the trade mark for Ghost N Goblin series. I wouldn't want this game to be finished in one sitting and never play it again- I rather play them again and again to finish it and trust me, it's gonna take awhile to figure out the rearranged mode to play those 'new' stages. Man, I'm in for real treat these days, Super Mario(Yoshi's Island), new Castlevania, and Super Ghouls N Ghosts- Somebody pinch me!

Enjoy it.

PS: I love this kind of game; where you make mistake, then you are over. Not that you have health point to be depleted, but every move, every decision to either jump, crouch, move, or attack has to be decided quickly or otherwise you are a dead man. Man, I wish Capcom would bring out first two series in one gamepack eventually if that's possible- Either this or that, I welcome the idea of bringing over those classics, just bring'em in!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best side scrolling action games ever!, April 3, 2004

Classic game. Yes, the game is difficult, but its not impossible to beat. I can proudly say I have won this game! I find the challenge curve to be exciting and not dull. This version is much better than the SNES version cause you can save your position on the cart without having to use a silly password.

...is to have the right weapon. Literally.
To reduce the difficulty in this game as much as possible, look for the weapon that fires diagonally.

The Pros:
1. Nostalgic Value: This was one of my first games for the SNES. 2. Great Music: I remember all the songs even after losing the game 10 years before.
3. Cartrage Save Feature: not only does it allow you to take a break without losing your progress, but you can also make it so you start every stage with the best upgrade.
4. Arrange mode: New stages add to the variety.

Cons: 1. You have to go through the game twice to beat it, and the item you must obtain in the second quest is very awkward and clumsy to use. However, you can get it on the first runthrough in "Arrange mode"
2. in "Arrange mode", you have to beat a level with upgraded armor(which means making it to the boss and then beating it without taking a hit) to get a new stage instead of the SNES stage

3. the difficulty CAN be annoying in several places, especially with those darn gargoyals.

4. No Sound test. The SNES Version had one, why not this?

Overall, this game is not too bad. I only gave it three stars because of the whole second quest deal and the expectation that you be an expert to see any new stages.

4.0 out of 5 stars Super Ghouls N Ghosts enhanced for GBA, May 16, 2011

Anyone who ever played any game in the Ghosts N Goblins series will tell you that only certain kind of gamers can handle it. Only those who thrive on high difficulty, intense challenges and hours of grueling game play can withstand it. Super Ghouls N Ghosts is part of that legendary series. Super Ghouls N Ghosts is a port of the classic SNES title released in 1991. And then it was released on the Game Boy Advance in 2002. This game made boys into men...and then those same men back into boys.

You play as Arthur, a brave knight, who sets out to rescue his girlfriend/princess from the clutches of Lucifer. You must go through multiple stages and battle many enemies before you face off with the big boss himself. Then, in a horrific twist, you must go through the stages once again, and this time you must find a specific weapon. If you do not, you will not be able to go all the way. No game messes with the minds of gamers and hits you with intense difficulty quite like the Ghosts and Goblins games; Super GnG holds up this tradition proudly.

The PROS: This port captures all of the stages, all the enemies in all of its great graphics, music and sound effects. Controls are easy from the get go so no worries since you will be focused on getting through the stages. Capcom decided to throw in new stages and depending on how well you do, you can choose the next stage as you progress. And for the first time, you can save your progress at any time. It's a welcome addition that doesn't require you to beat the game in one sitting. You wouldn't be able to, anyway. :P

The CONS: If there is one thing that I can say here is that this game is HARD. You will not beat this game in a few dozen tries. You will scream. You will get angry. You might break your GBA (or DS) in half. If you don't like incredibly and brutally difficult games, do not buy this! Consider yourself warned.

Super Ghouls N Ghosts is truly a unique game. On one hand, you have a action platform game that is great to play and carries on the reputation of the Ghosts N Goblins series. On the other hand, it is so brutally hard and unforgiving that only certain gamers who thrive off on that stuff will truly enjoy themselves. I cursed the name of the game for every time I played it. And then I went back and tried again. Would you feel the same? There's only one way to find out.

I bought this game for my 17 year old autistic son's birthday, he like surfing You tube and allways coming up with games he wants, this usually means a game that hasnt be made in years. I found this game on Amazon "used" with no box or instructions which was ok for him. The game came in a timely matter, it was packed in a box taped to a cardboard square. My son didnt care that it didn't have a regular box , he just wanted the game. As for the game itself I do not play but my son played it all day of his birthday, it must be a hard game because he will fuss about it and throwed the gameboy down on the bed. If I remember the orginal game you did not have a save, if you died you started over from the begining of the game, so I think it is the same for this game from my son's reaction to it. I would buy from them again, game came as advertised.

Simply put, this is one of the best games ever made. (and not to mention, one of the more difficult as well.) You play as Arthur and fight off wave after wave of demon's and other beasts and some of the boss fights are just impressive to behold. But just don't expect this to be a game you can beat in one sitting. No matter how much you've leveled up your shields, one hit and you're back to having a pair of boxer-shorts as your only protection. So, despite the difficulty curve some people might have to overcome to enjoy this classic game, as long as you're not the kind of person that would throw down your GBA after dying a few times, this game is highly recommended. This game is DIFFICULT. It took me a few weeks just to finish the first level and kill off the first boss. But I just couldn't put it down. I played this many times (original version) back in the late 80s. Its one of the best video games ever made. The sound, graphics (pretty good even though not 3D. Its just my favorite GBA game and I have 13 games. Buy it only if you are at least somewhat smart ; ).

Wow, what a game. The theme is just stupid cool. The soundtrack is pleasing. The gameplay....insanely difficult! Real tough! When I went through this game all the way it was on SNES....it took me 4 months on easy! I had to leave my SNES on for the whole 4 months. I wish I would have had this gameboy version that lets you save:( If you like a challenge, this is truely the game for you.

Try the different weapons out in various sections to see which will help you survive best! I was so happy to find this classic for the GBA. Did I ever love this on my old Sega Genesis 16!!!!
