My daughter is really into Super Hero books right now, and I thought this would be a great book to get her. It does a great job of introducing all the characters you see on the cover.

Here is my only problem with the book. As you turn the pages, you get to see all the Super Heroes in action, helping people. Except for the one female Super Hero, she is shown playing a prank on the other heroes. I know for most people this is not a big deal, but I just want to show my daughter strong female roles, in an area dominated by male characters.

My 3.5 yr old who is into super heroes right now, loves this book. It describes on each page, each of the 18 super heroes that make up the Super Hero Squad. We've read this book many times, and surprisingly, I don't mind reading it over and over. If your kid likes super heroes, this is a good one.

my 2.5 year old loves superheroes, but I'm a little prudish about the violence in most superhero cartoons- so I ordered this to see if it was toned down enough for a 2 year old. It's great. My son and I can read it over and over and talk about new things each time. It's also about the superheroes... not the villains- so no nightmares after storytime. great little book!

If I hadn't borrowed this book from the library I'd be burning in right now.

Why the rage, you ask? Here's a quick synopsis:

Superheros, doing superhero things. Action! Saving people! Flexing! All is connected by a nice benign string of throw away narration introducing us to the characters.

And then we get to the Invisible Woman. The only, woman, mind you, out of like fifty featured characters. Not only is she the lone lady of the team, but she's also IN THE DAMN KITCHEN.

Wolverine is saving a cat. Cyclops helps someone cross the street. The Invisible Woman isn't just the only character in the kitchen, she's the only one IN DOORS.(Discounting Captain America, I guess, because he's either standing in a solid white room or is about to be swallowed by a whiteout, but either one is WAY COOLER than cooking.)

We're told she's being mischievous. Well, that's great. Now she's the ONLY CHARACTER in the story who WORKS AGAINST HER OWN TEAM. (And where is Scarlet Witch? MS Marvel? We've got Dino Lad or whatever, but neither of them?!)

The context of why the Invisible Woman is in the kitchen is at best meaningless. For a kid that can't read all they are going to see is the only girl in the story in the kitchen mixing spices together at the counter while all the boys have the fun outside. My 4 year old even asked me, "Mommy, what is she making?"

I think it's pretty clear what she's cooking up, and this book serves it up readily to any little girl or boy unfortunate enough to peak inside.

My son is really interested in super heroes, but I don't want him to see the violence. This book is a great because he can learn about them, but there is no contact with any of the villains.
