This full-text Bible in the New International Reader's Version (NIrV) is for children (especially boys) ages 6-10. Through reading about the 'heroes' in the Bible, they will learn what it takes to be a hero of faith both from the character sketches throughout the Bible, as well as the character building feature called 'Power Surge---plug it in.' These features will be cross-referenced and will offer the child a 'system' for studying the heroes of the Bible, from Genesis through Revelation. Noted artist Dennis Jones has created 40, full page color illustrations which will be spread throughout the Bible. Other features include a presentation page, book introductions, a dictionary, a topical index, several different types of reading plans (theme-based, character-based, chronologically-based, etc.), and maps (as part of the endsheets).

From its attention-grabbing cover to the 40 eye-catching full-page portraits of Bible characters, The Super Heroes Bible (NIrV) is packed with enough visual stimuli for elementary-age kids to engage the interest of even a hardcore video game or comic book aficionado. Interspersed throughout the text are boxed stories of the good guys--and bad guys--and ideas for personal application of the lesson learned. There are strong women figures as well (such as the prophet Deborah), making this version appealing to girls as well as boys. More than 400 "Power Surge" sections, highlighted in yellow, spotlight Scripture verses with superhero virtues that kids can adopt for their own. The NIrV is an easy-to-read version of the New International Version written at the third grade level. This version is printed in purple type, which might look a little wild to an adult, but is probably offbeat enough to appeal to its intended age group. Jean E. Syswerda is a former editor and associate publisher for Zondervan Bibles. She helped produce such bestselling Bibles as the NIV Women's Devotional Bible. General editor of the Women of Faith Study Bible and A Mom's Ordinary Day Bible Study Series, she is the author of the Women's Devotional Guide to the Bible and coauthor of the bestselling Read With Me Bible. Jean and her husband, John, have three children and six grandchildren. They live in Allendale, Michigan.

I have been teaching Sunday school for several years and I am always on the lookout for tools to use with the kids I work with. Not only is this Bible written in easy to understand language, it has Dennis Jones artwork! Can't beat that. Dennis Jones has one of the most unique views on biblical artwork/cartooning that I have seen in a long time...and kids love it! Since this is a Super Heroes Bible, it shows Bible characters in that form. Moses has huge muscles, Samson is bigger than life, David is bold, etc. But best of all...no wimpy Jesus with long blond hair (He was Jewish, remember). Jesus looks happy, confident, loving children and approachable. That's the Jesus that I want my kids to see. This Bible is a must have if you have kids or work in children's ministry. I have used the artwork in this Bible to decorate our Vacation Bible School and also our Sunday school walls. I plan on using more Dennis Jones artwork for our new curriculum this fall. I love this Bible.

My son loves this bible. The pictures are great and the Word really comes alive to children through it! Highly recommended for the "Super Hero" boy in your life!

I purchased this bible for my six year old son. He loves it. He can read it independently and the pictures highlighting the heroes are really cool. I like how they have given a code to the hero qualities and them apply them to the different heros. Great bible for boys.
