5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome children's bible...superb artwork!
I have been teaching Sunday school for several years and I am always on the lookout for tools to use with the kids I work with. Not only is this Bible written in easy to understand language, it has Dennis Jones artwork! Can't beat that. Dennis Jones has one of the most unique views on biblical artwork/cartooning that I have seen in a long time...and kids love it...

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome children's bible...superb artwork!, July 2, 2007
This review is from: Super Heroes Bible, The (Hardcover)
I have been teaching Sunday school for several years and I am always on the lookout for tools to use with the kids I work with. Not only is this Bible written in easy to understand language, it has Dennis Jones artwork! Can't beat that. Dennis Jones has one of the most unique views on biblical artwork/cartooning that I have seen in a long time...and kids love it! Since this is a Super Heroes Bible, it shows Bible characters in that form. Moses has huge muscles, Samson is bigger than life, David is bold, etc. But best of all...no wimpy Jesus with long blond hair (He was Jewish, remember). Jesus looks happy, confident, loving children and approachable. That's the Jesus that I want my kids to see. This Bible is a must have if you have kids or work in children's ministry. I have used the artwork in this Bible to decorate our Vacation Bible School and also our Sunday school walls. I plan on using more Dennis Jones artwork for our new curriculum this fall. I love this Bible.

I purchased this bible for my six year old son. He loves it. He can read it independently and the pictures highlighting the heroes are really cool. I like how they have given a code to the hero qualities and them apply them to the different heros. Great bible for boys.

Great bible for kids! They need to see the biblical men and women as heros to look up to, not just stories in an old book! Kids love it.

I purchased the Super Heroes NIrV Bible for my 9yr. old grandson and he loves it. It has good information in it to explain what each book is about also who people of the bible are and it gets them ready for studying the Word. I would recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars We LOVE this Bible!, December 12, 2011

I purchased this bible for both my son and another boy. It is a full Bible, complete with an introduction to each book, and of course, full page pictures of each "Superhero", with their story. The Blue text (with yellow in sidebars) makes it much more fun than a standard black/ white bible. The key character traits are pointed out nicely. The quiz in the back helps enforce bible knowledge. The Bible is in a very easy-to-read format (NIrV). While I prefer a more literal translation, this is very easy for my son (5) to understand when we read it together. He enjoys looking at the pictures, and proudly shows his Bible off to our pastor and whoever is teaching Sunday School that week.

The other boy (also 5) I purchased this for is not as familiar with the Bible. When I told him the nativity story came out of the Bible, he ran to get it off the shelf, then proceeded to ask me about all the different guys in the cool pictures. I spent over 3 hours telling him stories that he had never heard, reading from a true Bible and not a watered-down storybook. I've never seen a child so excited about a Bible! No asking me to stop reading, no wondering what's on TV or if he could play a game instead (something he would have typically done long before 3 hours was up), and I'm sure we wouldn't have had that from a black/ white copy with no pictures. I hope that this book helped plant seeds in him about God's love, grace, and salvation. I would definitely recommend it for any boy who could use a Bible.

OK, I must be honest. I haven't ever cracked open this Bible. But I don't have to. Just read the intro to this Bible in the product description. This Bible is a product of the Christless Christianity that is so common in many mainstream churches today. We've been teaching children for years in Sunday School that all they need to do is imitate the morals and ethics of various Bible characters (who, by the way, were depraved sinners who committed some of the most heinous acts imaginable) and they too can be "good people"; you know, people whom God helps because they help themselves. So, why not have a Bible that goes right along with that line of thinking. Oh yeah, and of course you should "ask Jesus into your heart" too because he'll help you be a good moral person.

This comes from a gross misunderstanding of the true gospel of Jesus, which views man a totally and completely depraved...entirely unable and unwilling to be good or do good; in other words, a great big Super Zero. We aren't the good guys in the making, we're the bad guys! We are the enemies of God. Even our moralistic, ethical, religious "good" deeds are not good in God's eyes because they are not done by him through us, but rather by ourselves for our own selfish reasons. Apart from God's gracious and completely undeserved grace, we would never, EVER seek him or come to him...we would never become a "super hero of the faith."

Are there some good things in this Bible? Probably. But I will definitely not be buying it for my kids. They don't need to be taught to follow a "code of honor." They need to be taught how desperately they need to be delivered, saved, rescued, and redeemed by the only true super hero who ever lived, Jesus Christ.

I'd recommend reading Christless Christianity for anyone thinking about buying this Bible. Christless Christianity: The Alternative Gospel of the American Church
