Paul Davis was a gifted man. I ordered this CD for just a couple of songs, but remembered the other wonderful songs once I heard them again. Most will remember "I Go Crazy" from 1977. It got as high as #7 on the Billboard charts and spent 40 weeks on Billboard's Hot 100. His highest charting song was " '65 Love Affair", which got as high as #6. He released several songs in between those - "Darlin' ", "Sweet Life" and "Do Right". I had completely forgotten about "Do Right". What a treasure! When I heard "Ride 'Em Cowboy", which was released in 1974, I was taken back to high school. In the era of music like Grand Funk's "We're an American Band", I remember not giving it a whole lot of thought. I have a whole new appreciation for the song now.

If you are a fan of Paul Davis - even if you only know a couple of his songs - I recommend this CD. The sound quality COULD be better, but it's not bad. It's just not up to the quality of some of the CDs you'll hear today that have been "digitally remastered". This is the only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. I saw that note from another reviewer before I bought it and decided to buy the CD anyway. I'm glad I did. I've listened to the CD several times - start to finish - in the short amount of time I've owned it.

Buy it - you won't be disappointed.

Some might consider it a guilty pleasure, but I love collecting soft rock compilations of artists from the 70s and early 80s. It's warm, soothing music I remember from my childhood-- comfort food for the soul, if you will. But some of these artists-- like Paul Davis-- were a step above the rest as true professionals who wrote both straight from the heart and with real lyricism.
Admittedly, I'm not a Paul Davis expert. I purchased this album for "Cool Night", "I Go Crazy", "'65 Love Affair" and "Sweet Life". But I somehow trusted most anything else by this under-appreciated singer-songwriter was going to be just as good. This CD proved to me I was right. And as a bonus, I found out that the version of "Love or Let Me be Lonely" that I always loved as a kid was done by Davis. I didn't recognize the title until I heard it and instantly recognized it, to my great pleasure and satisfaction.
This great CD has all the hits and the songs I didn't know are just as good. You can't go wrong. Although, it would have been nice to have even just a brief editorial about the man's career in the insert. I know it's just a budget comp, but even the Flashbacks series gives you a little something. But that's my only complaint, and it's a minor one.
I see a lot of comments about the sound quality if this album being just under par. I don't know that I agree. Yes, there is a lo of bass in the mastering that gives some of the music a slightly muffled sound. But this didn't surprise or disappoint me because I remember these songs always sounding that way-- even back when I was a kid. I always felt the bass-iness gave the music a soft, relaxing sound, which just emphasized the warmth of both the performance and the subject matter. To further prove my point, you will see the same complaints about the earlier, pre-MP3-era compilation, "Sweet Life: His Greatest Hit Singles" (now out of print). That's just how these songs were engineered, and re-mastering is only going to change that so much. In fact, sometimes it makes some things worse. I theorize that people in general have gotten used to more modern recordings done with more modern equipment and techniques to a point where we begin expecting the old stuff to sound on par with it, especially when it's claimed to be remastered. That combined with how the music made us feel when it first came out and now doesn't have the same punch of newness leaves us feeling it's not quite as well-mastered as it should be. Perhaps. But at any rate, I have zero complaints about the musical contents of this album. It's well worth the budgeted price and then some, and it should be in anyone's soft rock collection.

I bought this Paul Davis, Super Hits compact disc to flesh out a weak point in my collection. I've been most thrilled with the disc for the most part. I just needed more of Paul's work, than I had on hand, from compilations and the like. I just love the songs/track listing, and the choice to purchase this CD. I have enjoyed listening to Paul Davis again and it is a very pleasant experience indeed. I think all of the essential songs are here, for one to enjoy. The sound on my portable players and in the car are fine. On my 'reference' system however it is a bit on the thin side. I'm ok with it, and I knew before hand that this would most likely be the case, and so it was. It's not bad, don't get me wrong. It won't hurt your ears or your system... I just don't think the mastering on this disc is up to snuff.

I'll not bother to take you back in time, with me. To the places and times these songs bring one to. Insert your own memories here and just listen to the music, enjoy it for all it is worth. Paul was a very nice singer, we are somewhat poorer in the world without him. Not a bad disc to start off with and if you are going to 'compress' the music you will never know it is, well a bit thin. All in all a enjoyable disc, and wonderful songs from Paul. Enjoy!

... every time I listen to this CD.

I only really knew three songs by Paul Davis (I Go Crazy, Cool Night, and Sweet Life) but I didn't know who the singer was until I googled and came upon Paul Davis. Of course, I came to Amazon and purchased Super Hits.

Wow. I am blown away. This man was extremely gifted- there is not a song on this album that isn't stellar. I am extremely glad I purchased this CD. I listed to it at least once a week!

I was hoping this collection would have great sound quality as it did possess the songs I cared most about. However, many of the songs sound overly compressed and slightly bass heavy. I wanted to really like this collection, but in my opinion, it just doesn't sound that good.

Even if you didn't grow up in the 70's and early 80's, this is the type of music that you can truly appreciate..... Everytime my wife listens to this cd, she cries. The songs actually mean something.

This is the type of music to curl up with in front a warm fireplace, a nice bottle of wine, a large blanket, and make sweet love all nite.... If you want true romance, buy this cd.

Happy love makings....."smiles"

What a great CD. Every song is great and I cannot remember the last time I heard any one of them on the radio.

Paul was a very under rated song writer and singer. This CD highlights many of his best songs. He was a real talent.

Great songs. I had a couple of Paul Davis LPs in 70's and this CD had all the hits that i wanted. Took me back.

I don't know why, but for some reason I had his song Cool Night on my mind recently. I didn't know that he'd passed away 5 years ago. A few of the songs I had forgotten until I listened to this cd. I'm very happy with it and I think of my Mom when I play it. It's one of many that are the soundtrack of my life. If you know what I mean, then any time a cd comes along that you just have to have, nothing else will do. It takes me back to when my life was happy. Lately, I've not had that and I find myself grasping anything that will help me find it again. God bless you Mr.Davis.
