A rollicking good time!!!,
This review is from: Super Hits (Audio CD)
The Weather Girls' original name was "Two Tons of Fun", and when you listen to this greatest hits collection, you'll see why. These ladies not only have phenomenal voices with incredible range and power, they are clearly having the time of their lives performing every song, and you'll have just as big a blast listening and singing along--in fact, you'll probably find yourself dancing around the room with them! It would be worth the purchase price just for their signature tune, "It's Raining Men". If your only experience with that song is Geri Halliwell's watered-down version, you have a real treat in store when you finally hear it belted out the way it was meant to be heard. Once you can tear yourself away from the fun of the fella downpour, you'll go on to find WG versions of old favorite tunes, some new songs, even a happy holiday frolic with two of the most fun-filled singers you'll ever listen to. Hallelujah!!!

Hey
I have just bought this cd and love it. I just wish there were more songs. I think they should have combined Two Tons and The Weather Girls since they are the same people. They should have put a song with Sylvester on here also. YOU ARE MY FRIEND is a good one. It's sad to note that Izora just passed away. So i am glad I have her voice on CD and will cherish it forever. Carry on Martha! All in all i love the songs especially the remake of LAUGHTER IN THE RAIN! I also love WELL A WIGGY it's a cute song with Izora growling it out ha ha. Another gem is BIG GIRLS DON'T CRY a very cool remake. And of course IT'S RAINING MEN! The classic Gay anthem ha ha. So if you wanna here booming voices along with choice beats then pick this up.

I only bought the CD for the song "It's Raining Men," but when I bought it and listened to it I thought it was pretty good. I got a lot more for my seven dollars than I expected. I feel the CD is worth buying.

"Super Hits" by The Weather Girls has terrific songs from their albums "Success;" "Big Girls Don't Cry" and "The Weather Girls." The sound quality is really very good as Martha Wash and the late Izora Redman-Armstead sing their hearts out--and wow, how they could belt out a fun-lovin' tune so that you'll remember it forever! The arrangements are well done and any fan of The Weather Girls is bound to love this CD.
The Weather Girls may have burst onto the disco scene toward the end of that era, but they certainly had a tremendous hit with "It's Raining Men." This song had lots of airplay when it was originally released; there was even a 12" LP with an extended version of the song for fans to enjoy and dance to! It's a great party song with an excellent beat and the special effects of the thunder and more are actually well done. The next track has The Weather Girls performing their own rendition of Rodgers and Hammerstein's "I'm Gonna Wash That Man Right Outta My Hair" from "South Pacific." They successfully take this older show tune and mix it up just right to give it much more modern day pep and verve and I really like how they do this! Equally good are their versions of "Big Girls Don't Cry" and Neil Sedaka's "Laughter in the Rain." In addition, you can listen for other great songs including "Well-A-Wiggy;" "Land of the Believer;" another big hit for them entitled "Success;" "Love You Like a Train" which is awesome; "No One Can Love You More Than Me" and the closing playful holiday track, "Dear Santa (Bring Me a Man This Christmas)." Not only is this great for Weather Girls fans as I mentioned above; but it's also a great introductory CD with some incredible numbers that newcomers to this duo can and will enjoy. Their music is just plain fun to hear and dance to even all these years later; and that's excellent.

The CD is fabulous . . I purchased one for myself, one for my Mother, and one for my sister. It was difficult to find in a store, but when I did an online search, Amazon appeared and it was in stock.

BIG Fun With The Big Girls!,

This excellent collection covers the 80's material of the Weather Girls. Prior to 1982 they were known as Two Tons of Fun, and they rose to fame as background singers for the late, legendary, Sylvester (see my reviews of Living Proof, and Do Ya Wanna Funk).
The girls were best known for the late Paul Jabara penned, camp/disco classic, It's Raining Men, but there is much more to be discovered. Fun takes on I'm Gonna Wash That Man Right Outa My Hair (from the musical South Pacific), Big Girls Don't Cry, and the original song, Dear Santa (Bring me A Man For Christmas) are balanced with great club songs like Success. Best of all this collection includes 2 tracks from their excellent self titled album from 1988, this release is Out Of Print, but here you get the club classic, Land Of The Believers, and the mid tempo song, Love You Like A Train, too bad that the ballad from this release Why Can't We Show Our Love was not included. To quote Sylvester from his Living Proof album, "These girls can sing y'all", and that they can! Ken

This collection is taken from the Weather Girls' '80's musical output. As albums like "Success" and "Big Girls Don't Cry" can be difficult to find, this collection is useful to get some of their recordings on CD. I was bummed the delicious "Hungry for Love" track off the "Success" album is not included here. The awesome "Dear Santa (Bring Me a Man This Christmas)" does make an appearance, though. Anyone who enjoys the classic "It's Raining Men" will find this track to be just as enjoyable. I'll never understand why it never came to be a holiday staple. Hopefully some more comprehensive collections will be issued in the future.
