These get pretty hot, so you're going to need a thick layer of something between you and the warmers. After they've been activated once, they have to be boiled in water to dissolve the crystals inside so that they can be used again. Don't plan on using them more than once on an extended snowy day trip.

These hand warmers work great for me. They get very warm & stay warm for hours. They fit in a pocket or glove. I have had no problems with these at all, have had them for a year & used many times.

I got these for Christmas. My wife and I spent hours clicking the metal disk inside trying to get them to activate. Finally one of them did, and it worked wonderfully - heated up quickly, and stayed warm for quite a while. We kept working with the other one. I'm sure we clicked it close to a thousand times with no success. I boiled both them as the instructions describe - to reactivate the one that worked, and to see if the other one might begin working. The first one worked on the first click after reactivating, and has done so through several cycles since. The other one still didn't work. Then I tried putting it in the freezer to see if it would work at a lower temperature. When I took it out of the freezer it was solid - it had self-activated at some point. I boiled it and tried it again; hundreds of clicks, but no success. I tried putting it in the refrigerator. It didn't self-activate, but also did not respond to dozens of clicks while cold.

Overall, one works and one is a dud. This company needs to hire a quality control expert.

We bought these and used them once and they broke. You're supposed to snap the little metal disc inside to release the heat. The first time it worked great; the 2nd time the metal disc broke so it wouldn't work any more. Don't buy!!
