5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best
When you play this game, you'll see why it sold over a million copies. "Super Marioland" was the first great adventure game for the Game Boy, and it's still one of the best. 3.0 out of 5 stars Game is fun but frustrating because you can't save your game
This game is a classic Mario game. It is very challenging because every time you lose all your lives, you have to start at the beginning. This gets boring after a while.

When you play this game, you'll see why it sold over a million copies. "Super Marioland" was the first great adventure game for the Game Boy, and it's still one of the best. I've been playing this game since it first came out and I still like playing it anytime I play the Game Boy. For the Game Boy, it has good graphics, control, the sound is cool, and it's a lot of fun. My only complaint is that there's only a few worlds, there could've been 2 or 3 more worlds to make it even better. It's not that hard of a game once you get used to it, but it's not too easy either.

If you have a Game Boy, I would recommend getting "Super Marioland," it's one of the best games you could get.

This game was pretty cool, but I had failed to read the instruction manual and got really frusterated at a few levels. I think its really cool that it keeps sending on new challenges. I would recomend this to people with at least a sliver of patiance though.

This is a really fun game. Only a couple of problems really... first off, everything is so tiny! The other thing is, there are only 12 levels, and none of them are as difficult as some of the levels of the original Super Mario Bros. But, for the Game Boy, it is a really good game!

I can't believe I got this game for Christmas fourteen years ago. For months after, I would actually *dream* this game.

Now, for original Game Boy, it's no masterpiece like Metroid II, Tetris, or Link's Awakening. But Super Mario Land is, however, a fine jumping-stomping-smashing-fireball-spitting Mario game, and one of the first and best games available for that giant grey plastic box of yore.

While the "save" problem is annoying to me as a gamer now, I'd never even heard of "saving" and "restoring" when I got this game as a kid. It just wasn't done back then. It was no different from playing Mario Bros. on Nintendo to me.

Once you get past the charmingly crude graphics (that's why we call it a "digital antique"), the sound and gameplay are enough to keep you occupied. Quality Mario action. 3 1/2 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Mario Game Of Them All, January 26, 2001

When you play this game,You will see why it was the top selling game for years. The controls seem a bit different, but you will get used to it in no time. It is great fun. The graphics are bad,but gameplay fun makes up for it. The music is the best of any mario game I've played. You cant save, but that would make it to easy. When it was made the mario games didn't save.Buy this game. You wont regret it.

5.0 out of 5 stars My first game, October 8, 2004

This was the first game I EVER played. It really is cool, with 12
levels and plenty of secrets. Like in the third level, if you go all the way to the left and jump, it revels a block that will take you up to the cealing to get a bunch of coins, or that you can go inside some of the flower pots. I've been playing this game for 9 years, and I'm certain I don't know all the secrets. Anywho, people are complaining that you can't save: here's the question: why do you need to? The game can be beaten in thirty minutes...non-saving just adds to the replay value.

This game is a lot of fun because of all the hard levels and hard monsters that stomp, fly, walk, run, and even fire things at you. The only thing is is that you can't save the game so you could go back to it later. But it is diffenitly worth the money!

4.0 out of 5 stars A great start for Game Boy, September 26, 2007
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars

Originally reviewed at Last-Gen.com:

The Nintendo Game Boy was a huge success thanks to AAA titles like Super Mario Land to boost sales at launch on 1989. The first-ever Mario platformer on a handheld, it is a faithful-yet-quirky game that's a trip down memory lane.

While video games at home were getting much more sophisticated by 1989, handhelds were still in its infancy. Mario had already been a household name by then thanks to Super Mario Bros. on the NES, and Mario was exactly what the budding Game Boy needed to succeed.

Familiar characters and gameplay welcome the player without much of a learning curve, but there are some distinct differences. While the NES counterpart had castles as their main theme, Mario this time around travels to Egypt, China, and even another planet. Goombas and Piranha Plants make a comeback along with the upgraded Koopa Troopas, who now explode upon getting stepped on. Other enemies include aliens, sphinxes, and Chinese ghosts. There are also a couple side-scrolling shooter type levels that keep the game interesting.

The music was memorable and catchy, very fitting for the levels. The ending theme is also nice, but it doesn't feel very "Mario." I also didn't feel that the game ended on a positive note, as the last level was a side-scrolling shooter -- not a very "Mario" way to wrap up a game. As with most Mario games at this era, the story is transparent as usual. The level designs are still creative and fun to play, but game is short with only 4 worlds with 4 levels each -- it's to be expected since there's no saving feature (run out of AA batteries and you're starting over). Also not so surprising is the lack of a 2-player option.

Super Mario Land definitely shows its age, but it's still a very fun game to play. It may only take you one sitting to beat, but the current cheap prices for the game should merit a purchase for the Mario fan.

You may cry: There are only 12 levels. In this game, though, the levels are longer and difficult. It is extremely fun and somewhat like the classic Mario game with the typical Daisy is captured plot. This is just plain good. What else is there to say?
