Space Pirates, merciless agents of the evil Mother Brain, have stolen the last Metroid from a research station. And once again, Mother Brain threatens the safety of the galaxy! Samus Aran must once-again don her awesome array of high-tech weaponry to retrieve the deadly Metroid hidden deep within the cave-riddled planet Zebes. In this sequel to the hit for the Nintendo Entertainment System, the pirates have built an even bigger and more complex base. The six huge areas to explore include: Crateria, under a constant deluge of acid rain; Maridia, a water-filled area; Brinstar, the jungle area of Zebes; an ancient, alien shipwreck; the lava-ridden Norfair; and Tourian, the control center of Zebes. Ancient Chozo statues hold special items for Samus, and she'll need every bit of help she can find to augment her supply of missiles and bombs in this 2-D, sci-fi adventure.
Super Metroid features excellent graphics, with a huge variety of enemies to battle. The side-view action will be familiar to many players, only now there are new weapons and items, including the Grappling Beam, which allows Samus to swing across large chasms, and the X-Ray Scope, which reveals secret passages. In addition, Samus can use the Charge Beam, Ice Beam, Wave Beam, Spazer Beam, and Plasma Beam. Choose weapons wisely, as some doors will only open when hit by certain beams, bombs, or missiles.
Suit and item upgrades abound in Super Metroid. The Varia Suit halves damage from enemy attacks and allows Samus to explore high-temperature areas, while the Gravity Suit reduces enemy damage to one fourth and allows Samus to move freely in water-filled areas. The Hi-Jump Boots, Space Jump Boots, and Speed Booster Boots improve Samus' mobility, and she'll also find some upgrades for her Morph-Ball form, as well.
As much about exploration and discovery as it is about hectic firefights with formidable enemies, this Super Metroid rerelease packs excitement into every nook and cranny of a wild planet.

Very difficult game. Spend literally hours learning the moves. Kind of disappointing. After hours trying to learn a wall jump fingers hurt.Published on May 6, 2013 by m.c
