Hilarious, but perhaps not for everyone?,

First off, I want to clear up some misconceptions:
When you buy this DVD, it comes with 2 DVD's... The American(Fosterized) version, AND the original Japanese episodes. One DVD has an american flag on it, the other says 'Original Japanese Episodes'. The Japanese episodes come dubbed, and also with Japanese voice+subtitles. If you rate down this DVD for the poor American version then you're a bit on the dimwitted side. You get both versions. Now, as for the review: The American version is, well, moreso translated and changed so that American audiences would find it funny. A lot of people like it, a lot don't. Personally, I can't stand Tetsuko's voice so I didn't bother watching it. This is NOT the version that is shown on Adult Swim. Surprisingly enough, Adult Swim bought the Japanese version and not the American version! Weird? Yeah, it really is. A lot of self-proclaimed American "Otaku" (Ugh...) prefer this version. (Ironic!) Also, this version really DOES seem to be a huge joke on ADV videos behalf. It's almost like they're making fun of poor dubs. (But most people seem to insist they were serious about it. Who know, right?) Now, the Japanese version. The Japanese version, even when dubbed in english, is really hilarious. The problem is that the humor is rather dry and cynical, so you need to really enjoy a less blatant type of humor. Each episode is self-serving, rather comparable to Aqua Teen Hunger Force, despite this being a genuine anime. The humor is also very centric on references to Japanese culture, something yet again that just simply won't be funny to someone who isn't familiar with the culture. Most of my friends whom watch Super Milk Chan seem to have the "Huh? Well, what's so funny?" attitude towards the series. "It's really not funny.." Asides from that, the actual content of the show is really hilarious, if not brilliantly done. There are some repetitive moments, but that alone is part of the humor and parody of this show. Let me jump back to the American episodes -- If you've only seen Super Milk Chan on Adult Swim, then you HAVEN'T seen the American episodes. You've only seen the Japanese ones. If you thought that Super Milk Chan could be funny, but the Japanese episodes didn't 'click' with you, then buying these DVD's might actually be worth your time. I was surprised to find out how many people absolutely adore the American version of Super Milk Chan but hate the Japanese(Adult Swim) version. Asides from getting the "Oh! Super Milk Chan" episodes on these DVD's, you also get classic Milk Chan shorts. These are just as good as "Oh! Super Milk Chan", but they are most obviously even MORE dated than Oh! Super Milk Chan, the artwork alone being a bit on the lower quality. (But not at all bad.) Which leads to another unfortunate thing, "Oh! Super Milk Chan" does sorta date all the way back to 1998. So even if you DO get a lot of jokes, or cameos in the series they may just be too old to still be funny. (But I think everyone could be amused with the President having a PS3.) So yeah, these DVD's are worth the money, and the series is really a brilliant comedy. But just a comedy; Don't expect a story. You get both the US and Japanese versions of the show with these DVD's, and if you don't like the Japanese version which is being aired on Adult Swim, you might want to give the American versions a try. Chances are you're missing out on something if you've already decided you hate Super Milk Chan. (Dr. Eyepatch. <3)

This DVD is more of the same type of humor that the first volume has. The plot in the live action series is fleshed out more as the actors find themselves locked in the studio during a blackout. Milk is the same potty mouthed, lazy, warped 5 year old. If you liked the first volume, this is a must buy.

These are the continuing pointless missions of the wanna-be super hero Milk Chan and her strangely precocious robot pal, Tetsuko, and their little enlightened slug Hanage. And let's not forget their robot dog who could outcuss a sailor! The President is having some problems, whether he's trying to become a gangsta rapper or spending an entire night getting one side of a rubik's cube all the same color, he NEEDS Milk! Unfortunately, he's been kidnapped by aliens (the President mistakes them for the Blue Man Group) and he just might become their food supply! But Milk isn't just interested in herself, she's interested in the environment and is willing to bag anyone guilty or innocent of destroying it! And there's also a special cameo by Godzilla! In between the English episodes is another live-action storyline starring the voice actor staff of ADV Films. As a storm hits Houston, the power goes out at the office, setting off their new security system and trapping them in various rooms. They have a lot of talent and these interludes are just as entertaining as the anime.
Even though from the box, this might look like a kid's show, it is definately for mature audiences and would earn an R rating if put out on movie screens. There is a very high amount of cussing. But who cares? This show is hilarious. At times it makes Southpark look unoffensive! And the ADV staff did a good job with the live action sections because of their talent and comedic timing. Disc 2 contains the Japanese versions of the show and I found them extremely boring. All of the characters pretty much speak in a monotone drone. It was like watching the English versions while you were sleepwalking. I wouldn't even bother viewing them. Stick to the English disk. Great show!

When I first seen Milk Chan on Adult Swim I had no idea what to think. I never seen anything like it. This is a parody of everything. This series includes two DVDs in all 4 chapters. One DVD is the original Japanese version and comes with not only subtitles but also a pop up that explains some of th3e humor an American would not get. The reason is this show was done originally in Japan and parodied Japanese culture in a lot of ways. The problem was most Americans are not familiar with Japanese culture so a lot of the humor goes unappreciated. ADV who produced this DVD set "Americanized" the English version on DVD 2 but managed to keep the original flavor of the original Japanese show. The jokes definitely are not missed by Americans now! The writers were merciless!
I am familiar with Japanese culture so most of the jokes in the original didn't go over my head. The American version is way funny but the humor is dry and sarcastic. The characters are in themselves Parodies like Milk Chan being a powerless five year old super hero with a foul mouth and bad temper. A lot of Japanses animation has heroes who are teen aged or younger operating equipment (mecha) or being super athletic (martial artists). Dr Eyepatch is the scientist who runs the King Idea Laboratories and not only are his robots Quirky but a lot of his inventions make no sense. Tetsuko is Chan's Robo nanny and on top of having internet access built in she also can lay a fart that will knock you out. Milk Chan always picks on her. Robodog 1000 (Robodog 5000 in the Japanese version) not only says very bad words he pees on everything. Hanage (The literal translation of his name is Nose Hair) is a slug who only speaks in his mind. Otherwise all he says is Bbbbbblah bbbblah. He is really smarter than he looks. He gets things done and never get any credit for helping. Then there is the landlord. Chan owes him six months back rent and she outsmarts him every time. On top of that he is gay as a sunny day in May. Then there is the President of everything. This man exemplifies incompetence. Oddly this show has an ending and it seriously does end on the forth DVD much to Chan's lament. This is a VERY adult show and way not for children under 15. The F word appears a lot in this show as well as things said that would have kids asking parents some VERY disturbing questions. If you are one of those PC sensitive types stay away. This show's irreverence knows no boundaries. Need a fix of strange humor? Check this set out. If you loved Super Milk Chan on Adult Swim, well, do I need to say it?

its so weird in some parts, that its accually funny.
it a very weird show, but thats why i love it, it will make some laugh, but not ohters. you either love it or hate it. (mostly cause you dont get it) so i say if youve seen it on adult swim, or any other place and liked it, get it, as peter on family guy would say, it freakin' hilarius.

MISS MILK...YOU WILL PAY THE RENT!!,

This isn't a review of this particular volume; just one about the show overall. My brother introduced me to this show a couple of months ago. It is not simple to digest and "easy" to like. The comparison to Power Puff is obvious visually, but it's not like South Park, and the only comparison to Beavis & Butthead is that the pace is similar. There is a cadence and pace to this show that is unlike other animated shows. There is a pattern to the plot that is followed quite closely; I don't feel it is detrimental, but adds to it. Ignore the pattern and plot, ignore the fancy colors and the catch phrases (YOU DUMB ASS), and just listent to what the characters say (particularly those of Dr Eyepatch, The President, and to a lesser extent, the Landlord). You'd think that you could chalk up their dialogue to it being "lost in translation" from its Japanese version. That is not the case; this Americanized version is to some extent a parody. The characters say things that individually make sense, but as a whole are beautifully nonsensical or just plain ol' inappropriate. There is a level of absurdity and child-like innocence to it that is at the very least hypnotizing. Bottom line - either you "get" it or you don't...it's that simple.
