5.0 out of 5 stars As insanely fun as it's console counterpart
The original Super Monkey Ball was one of the Gamecube's great launch titles and was an insanely fun game that proved Sega could still make great games. Super Monkey Ball Jr. manages to retain just about all the great qualities of it's console counterpart and graphically pushes the GBA to it's limits. The premise of the game is to roll a monkey in a sphere to the goal...

5.0 out of 5 stars As insanely fun as it's console counterpart, February 17, 2003
This review is from: Super Monkey Ball Jr (Video Game)
The original Super Monkey Ball was one of the Gamecube's great launch titles and was an insanely fun game that proved Sega could still make great games. Super Monkey Ball Jr. manages to retain just about all the great qualities of it's console counterpart and graphically pushes the GBA to it's limits. The premise of the game is to roll a monkey in a sphere to the goal before time expires or by preventing your monkey from falling off the narrow, twisting path. While this sounds easy and boring, the game is neither and is instead a blast to play. The controls on the analog pad can be a bit touchy (honestly the controls on the Gamecube with the analog sticks were better and more precise), but eventually you can get used to it and you'll experience the pure fun that is Super Monkey Ball. All in all, with the wave of GBA games of late, Super Monkey Ball Jr. is one of the best, and one of the most enjoyable games to come along in a while.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best gameboy game I've ever played, December 29, 2002
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Super Monkey Ball Jr (Video Game)
When I saw this at the store I grabbed it right away. When I looked at the back, It looked like the graphics were awesome, and they were! Even for a gameboy game, the graphics were pretty good. But I was bummed when they didn't put in MONKEY BILLIARDS. Best of all is that it hooks up to gamecube if you have Monkey Ball 1 or 2. It is great and simple to play, but hard to get past maybe the 10th level on beginner. So, all in all this is an awesome game and I think it rocks. There is a main game where you have to roll over to the goal, a mini game mode with the following games: MONKEY DUEL, MONKEY FIGHT, MONKEY BOWLING, and MONKEY GOLF.

5.0 out of 5 stars An awesome game, and fun party games., December 5, 2002

Super Monkey Ball Jr. is an awesome game, and a nearly falwless port to the Game boy Advance. The main game is still in tact, and it plays perfectly. Like its Gamecube brother, it is hard, but unbeivably addictive. Also included in the game are four party games. They are:
MONKEY RACE
MONKEY FIGHT
MONKEY BOWLING
MONKEY TARGET
Since the Gamecube version usually only used one button to play each of these games, the port is flawless. These can also be played using the system link, which will lead to hours of fun. It is a little disappointing that only 4 party games got ported, considering Super Monkey Ball 2 had 12. Graphics for the entire game are pretty good, but a little more detail would have been nice. Anyway, this is a great game for any player. Definetely pick it up if you liked the Gamecube versions, or want a fun multiplayer game for the Game Boy Advance.

What a brilliant game. I thought super monkeyball on the gamecube could not have been improved but I was wrong. This is the best multiplayer game, EVER on the game boy advance and it will be hard to beat in the years of gaming to come. Just buy a link cable and take this round ya' mates house and start playing the most frantic handheld game of 2002/2003. You will enjoy hours of gaming pleasure thanks to Nintendo. If you have not got a gamecube get the next best thing, a game boy advance. Contact amazon now and submit your star rating!!!

Other than that, once you get used to the control and anticipate turns and gaps in the floor it is pretty fun. Take this on your next plane trip to pass the time. The mini games are what round this out. The monkey golf one is really cool. And Monkey Fight is so frantic and fun you'll laugh your @$$ off just because you're having so much fun (sort of like how Mario Kart did for me all those years back). So far I've played this game more than I have any other GBA game that I own.

Basically it's marble madness in 3D. Instead of a trackball or analog stick you have the D-pad. Not the best control for something like this, but the game is playable and that's all I ask when it comes to gameplay. Rather than you moving the ball around you tilt the floor to get the monkey-in-a-ball to move. This can be disorienting to those expecting to have a stable floor to move around on but a tiltable floor lends challenge to the gameplay in my opinion. The camera can get frustrating, but the stages are simple enough so that you can anticipate/memorize what's behind the camera. No action buttons used except in the menu screens and mini games. And even then it's not too complicated.

Those looking for a challenging game that you can get into right away and that doesn't require a couple hours reading a strategy guide will find this game very enjoyable. This is arcade puzzle action. Not a RTS or a MMORPG.

5.0 out of 5 stars Warning: May be addictive when mixed with GameBoy, July 21, 2003

THQ really seemed to be focused on one aspect of gameplay when they made Super Monkey Ball, Jr: FUN. This game is unbelievably addictive! If you have a GBA, you need Monkey Ball.

Here's how it works: You pilot a ball (with a monkey trapped inside, hence the name) around a table by using the D-pad to tilt the table at different angles, allowing the ball to roll through the various obstacles on the course to the goal. Sound simple? Well, it is! That's what makes this game so great - it is easy to catch on to.

In my opinion, the best part of Monkey Ball is the fine-tuned difficulty curve. The levels get progressively harder at a very smooth rate, from the ridiculously easy Beginner stages to the insanely difficult Master stages. Monkey Ball offers great gameplay for seasoned gamers and novices alike. Plus, there are several different minigames available if you want to take a break from the normal gameplay. Perhaps the most fun I had playing this game was challenging three of my friends to a four-player bowling match.

As for graphics and sound:

Graphics: The graphics, while nothing to get excited about, do showcase the GBA's 3D capabilities nicely. The game is entirely polygonal.

Sound: While the tunes in Monkey Ball are well suited to the light-hearted feel of the game, they are quite repetitive. I found myself leaving the volume off most of the time.

This game plays like a dream - no GBA owner should be without it.

5.0 out of 5 stars stunning!, December 29, 2002
This review is from: Super Monkey Ball Jr (Video Game)
Does this live up to the fun of the gamecube version?Well,I honestly don't no for I have not played the gamecube version. But if it doesn't the gamecube version would have to be like an entirerly new definition of fun! This game is visually stunning, and offers great challenge and replay value! The main game starts easy with beginners mode, then works up to advance mode and the incredible hard expert and master's mode! While the later stages are so extremly hard the extras make up for it!each time you earn 2500 play points you can pick one of 3 mini games to unlock! The mini games are monkey fight, monkey bowling, and monkey golf! After those are unlocked you can get extra continues and an extra golf course! So when the difficulty gets on your nerves you can play one of these always fun mini games!Overall this is one of gameboy's best!

We got this for my 5 year old for Christmas, but it turns out that while he loves it, my 9 year old and my husband enjoy it even more! They all call dibs on when they get to play with it, and every now and then I'll hear one of them yell "Monkey!" The Monkeyball games keep them amused and they boys talk on and on about falling out of the monkeyballs. I haven't played it, but now I'm considering getting the GameCube version so we can all enjoy it... even if the monkeys' ears look like giant cinnamon rolls.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Best Monkey Related Arcade Game Ever!!!, June 25, 2004
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Super Monkey Ball Jr (Video Game)
Super Monkey Ball Jr. Even the title makes a person wonder what could a Monkey Ball be? Well, its quite simple: Its a monkey in a ball. So what would be fun about a monkey in a ball rolling around to get bannanas before the time runs out? And how would you make a mini game about a monkey ball? Well, the answers to these questions are simple too. You are one of 4 monkeys, AiAi, MeeMee, Baby, or GonGon. There are 10 Begining Stages, 20 Advanced Stages, and 30 Expert Stages. As you start to play the main game, the words Ready appear. Tension rises as the game yells Go and you are off! You must get to the goal before the time runs out. But what would be the fun in that if they didn't have bannanas? You don't have to get all of the yellow fruit, but if you do and you make it to the goal in time, the reward is double the points. That is pretty much the main game, and as most games progress and get harder, this one gets more challenging, fun, and exciting! With Extra Levels in each mode, and Mega levels, the main game will keep you playing over and over. But why is it called the Main Game? Well, of course, you have to have mini games! There are 4 mini games, but one is for 2 players only. The other three are for up to 4 players. They are Monkey Fight, Monkey Bowling, and Monkey Golf. The mini game for 2 players is called Monkey Duel. These have nothing to do with the main game. The Bowling and Golf are like an ordinary game of Bowling and Golf, only the Golf ball and Bowling balls are the Monkey Balls. The Monkey Fight is a battle on 3 different stages between however many monkeys are playing. Or if there is only one person playing the game, his or her monkey ball can play against 3 computer controlled monkeys. I own this game and i can not put it down! Some THQ games are boring, but this one isn't! Here is my opinion.

Pros:

Great Music! Even though there are a few songs only, it is actually good!

Great Graphics! The Monkeys in the balls are kind of blury, but everything else is fantastic!

Cool stages! Every stage is challenging and fun! I still have a hard time staying on the platform on the first level!

Mini games are awsome! If you are bored of playing the main game and want a break, you can play the mini games!

There are some Cons though.

Cons:

ONLY 3 MINI GAMES! They could have gotten away with 4 or 5 mini games instead of just 3 single player!

THE MEGA STAGES ARE WAY TOO HARD! With dark music and a room that seems to be filled with lava, the mega stages are way hard!

Everything else is great! I gave it 5 stars! I do have some advice! If you like to use codes on your games, there is only one you can use on this one! It is Enable all. But if you use the Nice Try Mode code or the Super Blocky Mode code, it will mess up your graphics, that's all! Why would someone want to mess up your graphics so you would have to start all over to get them back to normal? Its a sick world out there! Anyway, i think this game is the best Monkey arcade game out there on the Game Boy Advance! BUY IT NOW!!!

I have a question for the makers of the Super Monkey Ball Jr. Game. (Where is Super Monkey Ball Jr. 2)? Please make one!

I purchased this game for my 5 year old daughter. She loves to play it if her daddy stops playing long enough to let her have a turn! My 8 year old loves it as well. This game is lots of fun and very addicting!
